PERIODONTICS PROGRAM<br />

PERIODONTICS FACULTY POSITION<br />

Applications are invited for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of<br />

Assistant/Associate Professor in the Division of Periodontics, Department of<br />

<strong>Dental</strong> Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences, Faculty of Dentistry, University of<br />

Manitoba. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2007, or as soon thereafter<br />

as possible. The appointee must have university- or hospital-based specialty<br />

training in periodontics (Certificate/Diploma/Masters or equivalent), which<br />

will enable him/her to register as a periodontics specialist with the Manitoba<br />

<strong>Dental</strong> <strong>Association</strong>. He/she must possess, or be eligible for, the Fellowship in<br />

Periodontics from the Royal College of Dentists of Canada or be Board Certified<br />

in Periodontics in the United States. A PhD in a related area is preferred. The<br />

successful candidate must have demonstrated expertise in teaching and research.<br />

Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Extra/<br />

intramural practice privilege is available two half days per week.<br />

Responsibilities will include Directorship of the Graduate Program in Periodontics<br />

and leadership in teaching, research and administration in the Division of<br />

Periodontics. Other responsibilities include didactic and pre-clinical teaching<br />

as well as clinical supervision in the undergraduate and graduate programs,<br />

administration, outreach and community service programs in periodontics and<br />

supervision of research projects at the Masters level. The successful applicant<br />

is expected to develop a strong research program in periodontics.<br />

Graduating its first class of dentists in 1962, the Faculty of Dentistry offers<br />

a four-year dental degree, a two-year dental hygiene diploma, five graduate<br />

programs, a significant research profile and numerous community oral health<br />

services through its Centre for Community Oral Health. The Department of<br />

<strong>Dental</strong> Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences is responsible for graduate training<br />

in both Periodontics and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and for undergraduate<br />

training and research in Periodontics, Oral Diagnosis, Radiology, Oral Pathology,<br />

Hospital Dentistry, Medicine, Pain and Anxiety Control, Psychiatry and Oral and<br />

Maxillofacial Surgery.<br />
