Hotcity. l’internet mobile en ville
Hotcity est un réseau de connexion WiFi gratuit disponible dans le centre
de la ville de Luxembourg qui fonctionne comme un module d’extension
offrant une technologie numérique d’avant-garde et des opportunités
d’affaires. La connexion WiFi, une initiative de la Ville de Luxembourg,
est actuellement disponible à travers 79 points d’accès au centre-ville
et dans le quartier de la Gare. Elle a été lancée initialement comme un
service gratuit dans le cadre de la participation du Luxembourg dans le
programme Régions de Culture de l’UE 2007. Hotcity est un projet dynamique
qui possède la capacité de s’adapter aux nouvelles technologies
de communication en cours de développement. Toute personne munie
d’un dispositif électronique approprié et se trouvant dans la zone de
couverture peut avoir accès aux services de connexion haut débit offerts
par Hotcity. La connexion se fait à travers un portail d’information Internet
multi-dispositifs sur la base d’une plate-forme ouverte permettant de ne
pas limiter les services à un seul fournisseur ou à un seul réseau. Ainsi,
Hotcity a posé les fondations pour un centre d’activités et d’informations
qui inspirera la créativité et incitera les initiatives économiques pour la
Ville de Luxembourg et ses habitants ou investisseurs. Cette initiative
sera porteuse de créations d’emploi, d’augmentation des activités de
recherche et de formation et conférera au Luxembourg le prestige d’une
place d’excellence dans les technologies de l’information innovantes.

Hotcity is an open wireless mobile Internet network operating in
Luxembourg city centre that will act as a springboard for digital
technology projects and entrepreneurial opportunities. The WiFi scheme,
an initiative by the Ville de Luxembourg, is currently facilitated by 79 access
points and is set to expand to cover the whole of the city area. It was
launched initially as a free service as part of Luxembourg’s participation in
the 2007 EU Region of Culture with charging to apply from 2008. Hotcity
is a dynamic project that will have the capacity to adapt to new communication
technologies coming on stream. Anyone with suitable electronic
devices in the coverage area has access to Hotcity’s high-speed Internet
and communication services. The scheme delivers a mobile multi-device
information web portal via an open platform so services are not restricted
to one provider or network. In this way, Hotcity has laid the foundation
for a digital marketplace and information centre that will inspire creativity,
enterprise and economic opportunities for Luxembourg city and those
who live, work or invest in it. In turn, this should boost job creation,
growth in research and training, and showcase Luxembourg as a centre
of excellence in innovative information technologies.
