Martin Haselböck is in great demand as a guestconductor of leading orchestras worldwide and todate has conducted in this capacity, the ViennaPhilharmonic, the Gewandhaus Orchester, Leipzig,the Deutsche Symphonie Orchester Berlin, theDresden Philharmonic, the Mariinsky Orchestra, St.Petersburg, the Orchestra Giuseppe Verdi, Milan,the national philharmonic orchestras of Spain,Hungary, The Czech Republic, Estonia, Slovakia,and Slovenia, the Orchestre National de Lyon, theRoyal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders andmany others.Further engagements have taken Martin Haselböck at the Salzburg, Schwetzingen and ViennaVersailles.38 39to North America, Asia and Australia wherehe conducted, among others, the Los AngelesPhilharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, theSymphony Orchestras of Pittsburgh, Washington,San Francisco, Detroit, Toronto, and the SaintPaul Chamber Orchestra. Martin Haselböck wasappointed chief conductor of Musica Angelica, LosAngeles, in 2004. He makes regular appearances inCalifornia and abroad with this ensemble. In 2007together with the Wiener Akademie they undertookan extensive tour comprising 13 performances ofBach’s St Matthew Passion in Mexico, the USA,Spain, Italy, Hungary, Germany and Austria.As an opera conductor Martin Haselböck can lookback on a distinguished career since his debut atthe Handel Festival, Göttingen. He was the firstconductor to work on <strong>new</strong> productions in theGerman language of Mozart’s operas played onoriginal instruments, and for his production of DonGiovanni received the Mozart Prize from the Cityof Prague in 1991.Since 2000 he has conducted 14 <strong>new</strong> productionsfestivals, and appeared as guest conductor atthe opera houses of Hamburg, Hanover, Cologneand Halle. From 2007 to 2010 he became artisticdirector of the Reinsberg Festival in lower Austria,where he has directed acclaimed productions ofDer Freischutz, Fidelio, “Hansel und Gretel” and“Acis and Galatea”.Working with the American actor John Malkovichand the Austrian director Michael SturmingerMartin Haselböck developed the music drama“The Infernal Comedy” (taking as its subject theAustrian serial murderer Jack Unterweger) writtenfor actor, 2 sopranos and orchestra (on stage). Theproduction was enthusiastically received by bothpress and the public at its premier at the RonacherTheatre, Vienna in June 2009.In January 2011 the cooperation with Malkovichcontinued with the production of “The GiacomoVariations”. The chamber opera, in which Malkovichplays the role of Casanova, was given its premierin Vienna. The piece has since been performedin Vienna, Moscow, Sydney, St. Petersburg andMartin Haselböck has received several prizesand awards for his work, among which are theÖsterreichische Ehrenkreuz (Austrian Cross ofHonour) for Science and Art, the Prague MozartPrize, the Hungarian Liszt Prize and lastly theGroße Ehrenzeichen (Grand Cross of Honour) forServices to the Republic of Austria.www.haselboeck.orgTranslation: Robert Sutcliffefrançais
