THE 50TH ISSF WORLD SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP IN MUNICH

The presence of the Mayor of Munich, chrIStIAn
ude, and the Premier Minister of the
German Federal State of Bavaria, horSt
SeehoFer, indicates the importance given
here to the World Shooting Sports Championship.
From a sports perspective, however,
Mr. Thomas Bach, President of the German
Olympic Committee, Olegario Vázquez Raña,
President of the ISSF and Jacques Rogge,
President of the IOC, are the most outstanding
subjects in our postcard. In his speech,
Thomas Bach makes an appropriate reference
not only to the major sporting event
in Hochbrück and its magnificent opening
ceremony, which is taking place on the
Marienplatz beneath the blue and white sky,
but also to the great dream of Munich: the
organization of the 2018 Winter Olympics. A

“thank you for being here, dr. rogge, and
thank you for the support and the interest
you have always shown for shooting,”
said Mr. Vázquez Raña “I would also like to
thank the German Shooting Federation and
its President Mr. Ambacher. And I would like
to personally thank the IOC Vice President
and President of the German Olympic Committee,
Dr. Thomas Bach, who has been a
friend of the Shooting Sport for many years.
This is by far the best World Championship
that the ISSF has ever organized, the best
shooting sport competition of all the times,
with a record participation of 2200 athletes.
This massive competition is taking place in
a country where shooting sport have a long
tradition of success. Our sport is at home,
here in Munich!” – continued the ISSF President
– “This city will turn into the capital of
shooting, in the next 15 days. We continue
working for the development of our sport, a
sport which is clean and which regards fair
play and universality as its core values.”
“Shooting has been one of the very first
sports to start the modern Olympic era, and
it has always been an example,” stated IOC
President Rogge. “Shooting Sport has been
the star of great pages of the Olympic history.
We all remember those two shooters,
embracing themselves on the podium during
the last Games in Beijing, while their countries
were at war!” he added, referring to the
hug between Russia’s Natalia Paderina and
Georgia‘s Nino Salukvadze in the Olympic
final hall of Beijing. “We have great expectations
also for the next Olympic Games,”
continued Dr. Rogge. “I am following the
preparations, and I think that the 2012 shooting
venue it is going to be state of the art, as
well as a very sustainable range.”
