The 50m Rifle Prone Men final also crowned<br />

the first US athletes qualified for the next<br />

2012 Olympic Games, maTThew emmOns,<br />

who ended in third place, winning the Bronze<br />

and the Quota for his country. The 29-year<br />

old American shooter from Grand Rapids,<br />

Minnesota, a 2004 Olympic Champion of<br />

Athens and 2008 Olympic Silver medallist of<br />

Beijing, finished on the podium with a total<br />

of 702.2 (598+104.2) points. “It’s great to be<br />

the one who takes the first Olympic Quota for<br />

America,” said Matthew after the match “Of<br />

course, I am not automatically qualified. The<br />

Quota goes to the US Shooting team. All of<br />

the American shooters are passing through<br />

a qualification system in order to decide who<br />

will go to the next Games,” concluded Emmons,<br />

who has always represented the USA<br />

at the Olympics since he started competing<br />

internationally in 2001.<br />

Emmons also guided the US team to the<br />

highest step of the teams’ podium. Along<br />

with his team-mates Michael McPhail and<br />

Eric Uptagrafft, they scored an overall of 1791<br />

points and 117 inner tenths, finishing in first<br />

place with some advantage over the Korean<br />

team of Han Jinseop, Kim Jonghyun and Kim<br />

Hak Man. The Russian Federation finished<br />

in third place with an overall score of 1790<br />

points fired by Artem Khadjibekov, Konstantin<br />

Prikhodtchenko and Dmitry Ponomarev.<br />

Closing the individual ranking, Norway’s<br />

Vebjoern Berg and India’s Harlom Singh earned<br />

the last two Olympic passes in fifth and sixth<br />

place. Thirty year-old Norwegian engineer<br />

Berg placed in fifth with 701.4 (598+103.4)<br />

points, earning am entry pass for London two<br />

years after his fourth place at the 2008 Olympics,<br />

while India’s Singh obtained an Olympic<br />

Quota for his country with a score of 700.9<br />

(598+102.9) points at his first participation<br />

ever in an international shooting competition.<br />
