welcome the Shooting Association of Tonga,
the Afghanistan Shooting Sport Federation
and the Guam National Sport Shooting Federation.
Further, the Council approved several
changes in the ISSF Anti- Doping Regulations,
which was necessary in order to coordinate
ISSF Anti-Doping Rules with recent changes
in the World Anti Doping Code. The new ISSF
Anti-Doping Regulations are available for
downloading on the ISSF website or can be
requested through ISSF Headquarters.
ISSF generAl ASSeMbly
During the ISSF General Assembly, delegates
received reports from the ISSF President,
Secretary General and the Chairman of the
Technical Committee. Of course, the most
important agenda item was the election
of ISSF officers for the next four years. We
would like to thank all member federations
for their participation and for the tremendous
support provided by 160 member federations
to the President and Secretary General
through their unanimous re-elections. Some
long-standing officers did not chose to be
nominated for a re-election and therefore,
the ISSF General Assembly unanimously
elected three of them to be ISSF Honorary
Members. We offer our warm and grateful
congratulations to Mrs. Unni Nicolaysen, Mr.
Josef Ambacher and Mr. Fritz Schattleitner
on their election as ISSF Honorary Members.
Once again, we would llike to take this opportunity
to thank them for their long service
to the Shooting Sport and ISSF. We hope they
will still continue to provide their expertise
to the ISSF.
The elections brought some changes
within the members of the ISSF Executive
Committee and Administrative Council. We
welcome all of the new members of the Executive
Committee and Council and look forward
to a very successful cooperation with all
members of these bodies. A detailed list of all
elected officers is published in this issue.
During the General Assembly, delegates
from the 160 member federations listened to
very interesting reports about the preparations
for the 50th World Shooting Championship,
the 1st Youth Olympic Games 2010,
the separate Shotgun World Championship
in Belgrade 2011, the XXX Olympic Games
in London 2012 and the 51 st World Shooting
Championship in Granada 2014. The General
Assembly also elected the organizer of the
2014 separate Shotgun World Championship
and we herewith congratulate the Federación
Deportiva Nacional de Tiro Peruana for
pursuing and accepting this responsibility.
We wish them good luck in their preparations
and look forward to a successful separate
Shotgun World Championships in Lima, PER
in 2013.
ISSF World chAMpIonShIp
The Opening Ceremony of the 50 th ISSF World
Shooting Championship was organized at the
Marienplatz, the main square in the center
of Munich. We were extremely honored by
the presence of his Excellency Chevalier Dr.
Jacques Rogge, President of the International
Olympic Committee, who officially declared
the 50th ISSF World Shooting Championship
open. This World Shooting Championship for
all events in Munich became a championship
of records. With 2,220 shooters from 103 different
countries participating in 55 shooting
events for 477 medals, this was the largest
championship in the history of the ISSF.
Once again, Shooting Sport proved that it
is a universal sport where athletes from all
over the world can successfully compete for
ACTIVITIES
medals. In Munich, shooters from 35 countries
on all five continents won medals. Our
most sincere thanks and appreciation goes to
the German Shooting Federation’s Organizing
Committee, which set up an absolutely
outstanding competition.
During the Closing Ceremony, ISSF Vice
President Gary Anderson, who officially
closed this 50 th Shooting Championship in
the name of President Vazquez Raña, proclaimed
that “the 50 th World Shooting Championship
has been the best World Shooting
Championship ever.” This statement clearly
demonstrates that the ISSF was extremely
pleased with the organization and achievement
of this historic 50 th ISSF World Shooting
Championship.
