NOTE: A Total of 2220 shooters from 103 <strong>ISSF</strong> member federations were registered in the Entry List of all competitions.<br />

But only shooters from 100 NOC’s took part in the competition (shooters from TRI, <strong>IN</strong>A and ESA did not start).<br />

NASSER CUP<br />

the ruSSIAn FederAtIon’S ShootIng teAM obtained the<br />

Nasser Cup of the 50 th <strong>ISSF</strong> World Championship in all shooting events,<br />

a prestigious award granted to the team which earns the hIgheSt<br />

nuMber oF IndIvIduAl gold MedAlS. The People’s Republic<br />

of China finished at the top of the overall medal standings (including<br />

individual and team events) in what was considered a photo finish,<br />

but it was Russia which won the highest number of individual Golds<br />

(10 Gold to China’s 8). The Nasser Trophy was established at the 38 th<br />

<strong>ISSF</strong> World Championship held in Cairo in 1962, by initiative of President<br />

of Gamal Abdel El Nasser, President of the United Arab Republic.<br />

The Nasser Challenge Cup was also held later on during the following<br />

39 th <strong>ISSF</strong> World Championship in Wiesbaden. Since then, the Nasser<br />

Challenge has become a tradition of <strong>ISSF</strong> World Championship, and<br />

the trophy is given to the country whose shooters achieve the highest<br />

number of individual Gold medals. The Team of the former Soviet<br />

Union won the first edition in 1962. Thirty-eight years later, at the<br />

50 th <strong>ISSF</strong> World Championship, the Cup went to Russia with 10 Gold,<br />

6 Silver and 6 Bronze medals.<br />
