Jungle Theatre Company presents The Whale Show at Ou<strong>de</strong> Libertas,<br />

Stellenbosch, on Saturday 25 February at 10h00. This show was part of<br />

the 2011 Out the Box festival and is a <strong>de</strong>light in family theatre!<br />

The Dance Umbrella starts this week in Johannesburg, and promises to<br />

be an absolutely phenomenal event.<br />

The Suidoosterfees started yesterday, and runs until the 19 February. A<br />

love-themed festival comprised of operas, plays and musical<br />

performances by South African artists.<br />

Maynardville's Comedy of Errors is ending off its run this week - your last<br />

chance to catch this high-octane clash between retro Kung-Fu and Shakespeare!<br />

Sacred Elephant at The Intimate Theatre on the 19 February.<br />

Celebrated actor, Jeremy Crutchley, and director Geoffrey Hyland combine their talents to produce an empathetic tribute<br />

to the poem by Heathcote Williams.<br />

Did We Dance - Ukutshona ko Mendi is starting a run at the Baxter, written by Lara Foot and directed by Mandla<br />

Mbothwe. This stirring representation of a group of men trapped on the Mendi whilst it sank during World War I in 1917 is<br />

a night out in Ron<strong>de</strong>bosch well spent!<br />

The GIPCA Great Texts/Big Questions lecture series starts this year with a talk by Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler from<br />

Handspring who will share their i<strong>de</strong>as on micro-movements and how central breath is to the life of an object. This will be<br />

prece<strong>de</strong>d by a short performance, I Love You When You are Breathing.<br />

The world's biggest Puppetry Festival is calling for applications: productions run from 20 - 29 September 2013. Deadline<br />

The Department of Drama, University of Cape Town together with the Gordon Institute for Performing and Creative Arts<br />

(GIPCA) will be hosting the 2012 annual African Theatre Association International Conference in Cape Town, South<br />

Africa. The conference theme, Querying Africa: Dis-ease, Metamorphosis and Unconventionality in African Theatre and<br />

Performance, interrogates the transformation, adaptation, shifts in form and practice, ‘infection’ of social or<strong>de</strong>r, the<br />

mutation of content and the challenges of <strong>de</strong>finition in contemporary African Theatre and Performance.<br />

This conference offers a space for conversations between aca<strong>de</strong>mics and practitioners that interrogate current practice<br />

in African theatre and performance through a wi<strong>de</strong> range of forms including papers, panel discussions, performances,<br />

innovation in presentation, exhibitions, screenings, media and associated arts, public mediated happenings and events<br />

in the city.<br />

help as a facilitator or mentor; we're always looking for help in the<br />

form of labor, donations and sponsorships. At the moment we are in<br />
