Tout porte à croire que les D35 (ici Alinghi devance Swisscom) domineront une fois encore cette édition du Bol d'Or Mirabaud. Pour la dernière fois ?
que grandement contribué à faire naître. Et pour
l’histoire d’un équipier qui peut devenir l’homme
le plus titré de l'épreuve en allant chercher un
8 e sacre. On veut bien sûr parler de Pierre-Yves
Jorand, l’homme qui accompagne Ernesto Bertarelli
depuis 30 ans dans toutes ses aventures véliques.
Deux hommes rêvent
d'un 8 e sacre
La bagarre devrait être particulièrement émotionnelle
puisqu’un autre navigateur de légende
ambitionne lui aussi la passe de huit. Il s’agit bien
sûr de Christian Wahl, qui en a gagné cinq avec
Alinghi (et un certain Pierre-Yves Jorand), un avec
Ladycat et un avec Mobimo l'an passé. Toujours
dans le registre de l’émotion, Ladycat Powered by
Spindrift racing devrait une fois encore sortir les
griffes pour tenter de s’offrir cette der des D35.
Avec trois succès, le bateau de Dona Bertarelli a
fait mieux que celui de son frère en D35. C’est dire
si ce dernier voudra égaliser avant de passer dans
une nouvelle dimension.
The coming of the
TF35s
Our president and his enthusiastic
crew will keep doing all they can to
break the stride of the D35s. As of
next year, a new craft will more than
likely be taking over the reins. We
are talking about the TF35, an ultrapowerful
hydrofoil that is versatile
enough to dominate all its rivals in
the BOM. This would result in the
majority of D35 owners changing
over in 2020 to maximise their
chances in the BOM. Nevertheless,
some unknowns remain. Can these
new gems of the lake be made
sufficiently reliable in twelve months?
How will they behave in changeable
conditions and in the lulls, when
the wind dies completely? We will
start to find out when the TF35 is
launched in July.
In the meantime, the fight for the
victory will be between D35s, plus
one other. As always, Alinghi – the
ogre of the lake – will be the one to
beat. The team that was so implacable
in the northerly bise wind in 2017 is
always competitive. Ernesto Bertarelli
will definitely be wanting to enter
the record book, both as skipper of
the boat he did so much to create,
and for one of his crew, whose 8 th
win would hand him the individual
record. It is of course Pierre-Yves
Jorand, who has shared all Ernesto
Bertarelli’s sailing exploits for the last
30 years.
