MAINTIRANO
Faisant partie de la région Alaotra Mangoro, Anosibe
An’ala se trouve à 72 Kilomètres de la ville de Moramanga.
Pourtant, il faut plus de 5 heures de route en moto pour
y aller. En période de pluie, la ville n’est accessible qu’en
camion.
Également un site à végétation abondante, ¾ de
sa superficie est couverte de forêt dans laquelle on
retrouve divers bois précieux. A ce décor verdoyant
s’ajoute la rivière Sandrangato qu’enjambe un pont
de pierre, une vision qui finit d’offrir un magnifique
spectacle. D’autres chutes contribuent également à
ce panorama époustouflant. Pour accéder à la forêt, il
faut procéder à un rituel appelé « saotran’ala » afin de
demander grâce.
Un coin perdu dans l’ouest de la Grande Île, Maintirano
est un petit havre de paix aux paysages magnifiques. Elle
se situe à 500 km de la capitale. La route menant à cette
ville, la RN 1a, est surnommée« la route du diable » ou
« la route de l’impossible » à cause de l’accès difficile voire
impossible en temps de pluie. Pourtant, les paysages
qu’elle offre contredisent son nom qui signifie littéralement
« eau noire ». En effet, ses plages aux sables fins, ses eaux
transparentes sur laquelle les boutres, les pirogues ou les
goélettes naviguent donnent d’étonnants spectacles.
Maintirano est également connu pour sa gastronomie
notamment pour ses crustacés frais. Sur ses routes
circulent des voitures anciennes donnant l’impression
d’être projeté dans une autre époque.

Located in the region of Alaotra Mangoro, Anosibe An’ala
is 72km from the town of Moramanga, but it takes over
five hours to get there by motorbike. In the rainy season,
the town can only be reached by truck.
It is also a region of abundant vegetation, with threequarters
of the area covered by forest and harbouring
trees that produce precious woods. Against this lush
green backdrop flows the river Sandrangato, crossed by
a stone bridge, offering spectacular views. There are also
waterfalls, contributing to the breathtaking scenery. To
enter the forest, visitors need to carry out a ritual referred
to as saotran’ala, to request the grace of the spirits of
the forest.
A remote corner in the west of Madagascar, Maintirano is a
little haven of peace, with stunning landscapes. It is situated
500km from the capital. The road leading to the town, the
RN 1a, has been nicknamed ‘la route du diable’ (devil’s road)
or ‘la route de l’impossible’ (the impossible road), due to the
difficult or even impossible access during periods of rain. Yet,
the landscapes here totally contradict its name, which means
‘black water’, since its fine sandy beaches, its crystal-clear
waters criss-crossed by dhows, dug-outs and schooners, offer
astonishing sights.
Maintirano is also renowned for its gastronomy, notably its
fresh seafood. With the vintage cars driving along the roads in
the region, you have the impression of stepping back in time.
