T
he works of Sig. Gio. Paolo Cima are so beautiful and wanted
for their excellence and lightness — according to best
musicians — that, for my natural desire to help anyone, I’m
looking for them in order to print them (although with many
difficulties since Sig. Cima is so modest and consider them as
little things). And in particular I reached to have these Concerti
Ecclesiastici , so much appreciated when they were sung and played by him so
that everyone wants to have a copy of them.
Only I had to find a person to which dedicate this printing: I thought to you,
so interested in music and competent that in your home you are used to invite
many virtuosi of this art and to own not only every sort of instruments but also
the best ones, and are able to play all them, as I’ve heard from many people.
So I offer these little concerts to you since I know that you will appreciate their
value and all the gracious passages inside them. In fact I praise them not for
my own affection, but for the effect they produce on me: I’m not able to praise
them and their author properly as I should.
So please accept them with your usual benignity since they are from such an
excellent author and since they are gifted from me that want to be a servant of
yours.
