TO THE READERS
Dear Sirs, I ask you, that want to perform these little
concerts of my own (I say this not because I
pretend to teach anything to anyone, but only for
my satisfaction), to sing them as they are written,
with as much expression as possible. And if skilled
singers would like to add something, please add only accenti and
trilli. Also Organists should play the pieces with only Basso and
Soprano filling middle parts with as much diligence as possible,
since a well done accompaniment makes singing more beautiful.
And if they find any licentious passage, please look at the lyrics or
at the affect of music that is written with this aim. In the Partitura
I’ve printed ornaments as they are in part books so that the
organist can see the style of the music and because if he sometime
plays them, this can be useful to the singer. But in general consider
it to be better to play only the chord; the player may do what he
prefers. And since these concerts have been printed after their
approbation, all praise is to the High Majesty of God only, donor
of all graces. Live happy.
