creatività di sette designer
internazionali che hanno
interpretato la Pelle, perché
siamo convinti che
dalle nuove generazioni
possano nascere nuovi
stimoli e percorsi. I
distretti rappresentano
una delle caratteristiche
più originali della storia
industriale italiana e svolgono
il ruolo fondamentale
di unire una miriade
di piccole e medie imprese
specializzate, riuscendo
a ottenere vantaggi
fondamentale per il settore
tessile abbigliamento:
alta creatività e grande
reattività ai cambiamenti
della moda, mantenendo
la capacità di competere,
in un mondo globalizzato,
con le economie internazionali
più forti”.
D
uring the recent
Milano Moda
Donna, the spotlight
fell on “leather”, thanks to
the “Solofra Leather
Expressions” project
organised by the National
Chamber of Italian Fashions
in collaboration with
the Chamber of Commerce
of Avellino.
The project aimed to
enhance and promote the
image of the Solofra tanning
district, located in
the province of Avellino
and recognised as a firstrate
leather production
centre.
Hence, the National
Chamber of Fashion
(Cnmi) announced a
competition to find young
and international creative
talents to put a new
interpretation on the
glamour of Solofra’s
Leather. A special commission,
made up of the
sector’s professionals, that
is to say Giovanna Gentile
Ferragamo (Vice
Chairman of Cnmi),
Adriana di Lello (fashion
editor in chief for Elle),
Beppe Angiolini (Chairman
of the chamber of
buyers), Christine Ellis
(buyer for Neiman Marcus),
Titti Matteoni
(director Fashion Magazine),
Anne Marie Paltsou
(buyer for Saks Fifth
Avenue) and Giulia
Pirovano (director Cnmi)
chose seven young designers
out of the over one
hundred entries received.
These young talents,
Maikel Bongaerts (Holland),
Michela Carraro
(Italy), Alison Miller
(America), Ilaria Piluscio
(Italy), Serena Piscolla
(Italy), Asuman Samyeli
(Turkey) and Anna Smit
(Holland), designed a
mini-collection on the
theme, made up of five
creations that they
realised in collaboration
with ten companies in the
district of Solofra, chosen
by the Chamber of Commerce
of Avellino.
The leather creations
realised for the occasion
were exhibited in the
fashion show centre of
Milano Moda Donna on
display in the Solofra
Spazio from 29 to 27 September
2008. The stage
design of the area dedicated
to Solofra Leather
Expressions was invented
by the Kings artistic duo
(Federica Perazzoli and
Daniele Innamorato)
and conceived as a temporary
museum easily
built and able to be used
in different locations.
This project was particularly
significant because
it teamed youthful creativity
with small and
mid-sized local companies,
thus creating new
synergies and fresh stimulation.
Chairman of the Chamber
of Commerce of Avellino,
Costantino Capone,
expressed his opinion,
“Leather, creativity and
innovation are the cardinal
points of the Solofra
tanning district and the
three fundamental components
of the “Solofra
Leather Fashion” project
that intends to make a
significant contribution
to the discovery of new
frontiers for leather fashions
through fresh ideas,
original creations and the
emerging talents of young
designers. This project
was incepted and developed
in strict collaboration
with the companies
of the Solofra district,
which has now found its
maximum expression in
this prestigious Milan
frame. It was a big opportunity
for companies from
Avellino to conquer new
and increasingly important
spaces even in the
world of fashion, as well
as an opportunity to promote
the image of an
industrial system that is
way ahead when it comes
to production quality and
the ability to be creative
and innovative.”
In conclusion, the comments
of Mario Boselli,
Chairman of the National
Chamber of Italian Fashions,
“Cnmi gladly
accepted the invitation to
collaborate with the
Chamber of Commerce of
Avellino to promote and
enhance the Solofra district.
We banked on the
creativity of seven international
designers to
interpret the leather,
because we are convinced
that these new
generations can give rise
to new stimuli and new
directions. The districts
represent one of the most
original characteristics of
Italy’s industrial history
and play a fundamental
role in uniting myriad
small and specialised
companies, managing to
obtain fundamental
advantages for the textile
clothing sector: great creativity
and speedy reaction
to changing fashions,
maintaining the ability to
compete in a globalised
world, with stronger
international economies.”
