i suoi fabbri.
The Cassero, a medieval watchtower, reaching over 38 metres in height, stands as symbol of Castelraimondo, a
municipality in the Province of Macerata, lying almost at the edge of the upper valley of the Potenza River. The tower
is one of the last remains of a glorious and suggestive past. The village, whose fortified centre was built in the early
14th century, was almost entirely destroyed: infighting during the Renaissance period, natural disasters and urban
redevelopment in the early 20th century wiped away the old urban layout of the village, and both the church of San
Bartolomeo and the Cappella della Maestà were destroyed (amongst other things). Only part of the castle walls, the
main building – which was turned into a parish house throughout the centuries – and the Cassero watchtower have
survived to the present day. Nevertheless, Castelraimondo was able to maintain continuity with its past and history by
keeping ancient traditions alive, such as the Infiorata (flower carpet) during the Corpus Christi Feast.
In the 19th-20th century, Castelraimondo was also famous for its “cocciari” (master potters) and blacksmiths.
Notable citizens of Castelraimondo include Nazareno Strampelli – scientist, geneticist and Senator of the Kingdom,
Giuseppe Gariboldi – flutist, and Ugo Bottacchiari – composer.
