DRIVE CHAIN
Maintenance
The duration of the drive chain depends on proper lubrication and
adjustment. lf these are overlooked, the pinion and sproket can be
worn and damaged, greatly compromising cycle performance.
The chain should be checked each time before starting off and
adjusted every 2000 km .
lf the motorcycle is subjected to continuai stress or used in dusty
areas, the maintenance must be done more frequently.
Checking
This operation must be performed with the vehicle unloaded, vertically
erect and must be repeated with the wheel in ditferent positions,
to make sure there are no pronounced eccentricities in the
sproket. With the chain-stretcher shoe excluded, the lower run of the
chain should flex 20 + 25 mm. at a point halfway betweeb sprocket
and pinion.
lf the chain loosens up or catches, lt is due to some damaged or
seized links. Also check the wear of pinion and sprocket and
replace the three parts if necessary.
