It occurs in freshwater swamps, swalesand dune deflation hollows in poorly-drained sandy to peaty loams on Pleistocene backbarrier sands . Shrubsare mostly uncommon except for Olive Tea-tree (Leptospermum liversidgei). Large clumps of Red-fruit Saw-sedge(Gahnia sieberiana) are usually scattered throughout the community while beneath these is an often dense layerof Coral Fern (Gleichenia mendellii), Slender Twig Rush (Baumea teretifolia) and Sporadanthus interruptus.* Profile information is based on community NSW VCA 70-70: Red-fruit Saw-sedge - Coral Fern sedgeland ofswamps of the NSW North Coast Bioregion.
