CH_SW01Floristic summaryLayer Height (m)* Cover (%)* Dominant SpeciesTallest 0-8 50-65 Avicennia marina subsp. australasica, Aegiceras corniculatum.* Data collated from 2 of 2 full floristic sitesStructural and floristic variationsLower estuarine and mud-flat areas where tidal inundation is frequent are commonly dominated by GreyMangrove (Avicennia marina subsp. australasica) with little or no River Mangrove (Aegiceras corniculatum) present.Occurrences of this community in more brackish waters with less tidal influence can contain a higher proportionof River Mangrove and occasionally other salt tolerant species. Examples of this community may vary from beingfairly expansive in wider estuaries (e.g. Corindi River) to narrow riparian strips in smaller creeks and rivers withsteep banks that transition rapidly from saline to freshwater influence.Species richnessNumber of plots: 3Total native species: 2Average number of species: 1.5 ±0.5Conservation statusThis community is reserved in Bongil Bongil National Park (10ha), Moonee Beach Nature Reserve (2ha) andYuraygir National Park (28ha).TenureArea (ha)Crown Land 14Freehold 83National Park 46Nature Reserve 3TOTAL 146Relationship to other communitiesCH_SW01 transitions fairly rapidly with small changes in elevation and tidal flow patterns to several othercommunities. As the frequency and duration of inundation increase, CH_SW01 may transition to a numberof saltmarsh communities including CH_SW07 (Estuarine Samphire - Saltwater Couch Saltmarsh), CH_SW06(Sea Rush Saltmarsh) or CH_SW02 (Estuarine Twig Rush Saltmarsh). A number of saline influenced forestedcommunities also transition to CH_SW01. These include CH_FrW10 (Swamp Oak Forested Wetland) and CH_FrW11 (Estuarine Paperbark Twig Rush Forest).EquivalentsBiometric: (NR182) Mangrove - Grey Mangrove low closed forest of the NSW Coastal Bioregions.Other: SG2502 – Mangrove/Saltmarsh Complex (Fisher et al. 1996); Community 11- Grey Mangrove Bongil BongilNational Park (Cameron et al. 2010).Vegetation Mapping of the Coffs Harbour Local Government Area Page 383
