APPENDIX 2: Other Vegetation CommunitiesCode Short Name Formation Class DescriptionCH_EX01 Bitou bush Derived ExoticvegetationAreas mapped as monocultures of Bitou Bush (Chrysanthemoidesmonilifera subsp. rotundata). Only three areas mapped as such inthe study area and they are found at Look-at-Me-Now Headland(Moonee Nature Reserve) and Sandy Beach. All other occurrences ofBitou throughout the study area are indicated as a disturbance codewithin near coastal floristic communities.CH_EX02CamphorlaurelDerivedExoticvegetationLarge single trees or dense stands of Camphor Laurel (Cinnamomumcamphora) are mapped where the species is largely or completelydominant. The distribution is characteristically small remnantpatches that are linked strongly to rural valley floors, urban andsemi urban landscapes. Areas mapped as Camphor laurel maycontain elements of the remnant floristic community, commonlythe COAST AND HINTERLAND RIPARIAN FLOODED GUM BANGALOWWET FOREST (CH_WSF01) or the HINTERLAND WHITE BOOYONGFLOODPLAIN RAINFOREST (CH_RF09).CH_EX03ExoticvegetationDerivedExoticvegetationExotic vegetation may refer to small to medium remnant patches ofnon-native vegetation as well as commercial horticultural farms suchas bananas and blueberries. Distribution is linked with rural valleyfloors, commercial horticultural farms and derived urban/semi-urbanlandscapes.CH_EX04 Lantana Derived ExoticvegetationCH_EX05 Privet Derived ExoticvegetationCH_MV01 Seagrass beds Marine MarinevegetationLantana (Lantana camara) is mapped where its dominance couldbe delineated by remote sensing interpretation. Lantana is verycommon and widespread throughout the LGA and thus morecommonly identified as disturbance in other floristic communities. This mapping unit’s distribution is comparatively smaller as itrequires dominance of Lantana over a significant area.Only small isolated occurrences of Privet (Ligustrum lucidum,Ligustrum sinense) dominated creek lines are mapped. Privet occursmore commonly as a disturbance factor in floristic communities.Maritime seagrass beds have been captured by Department ofPrimary Industries. Additional polygons were delineated in thisstudy where known to be different from the DPI map. Mappedoccurrences in this study are restricted to Hearnes Lake but seagrassbeds are known to occur elsewhere in the LGA.CH_NP01AcaciapioneersDerivedNativepioneerNNon-native and derived native stands of Acacia spp weredelineated for this unit. Commonly recorded species included GreenWattle (Acacia irrorata) and Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon). Othercolonising native and non-native species are also mapped as partof this unit. Typical species may include Tobacco Bush (Solanummauritianum), Willow Bottlebrush (Callistemon salignus), SwampBox (Lophostemon suaveolens), Black Wattle (Callicoma serratifolia),various paperbark species and common exotic weeds. This unitwas only mapped where a dominance of native pioneer specieswere identified by the interpreters. Distribution is linked stronglywith rural valley floors, plateau farm land, urban and semi urbanenvironments.CH_NRV01NativeremnantvegetationNativeremnantvegetationNativeremnantvegetationThis unit mostly captures small to medium sized remnants of nativevegetation dominated by native species that cannot be assigned toa floristic community due to size, disturbance and fragmentation.Distribution linked strongly to cleared urban and rural landscapesbut also includes remnant native tree lines within forest plantationareas.Vegetation Mapping of the Coffs Harbour Local Government Area Page 411
