SANTOS LIMA
Botanist Joaquim dos Santos Lima Júnior (1887-1944), a pharmacist and
great researcher, was born in Santa Maria Madalena and provided relevant
services to the city. His story is intimately related to the park. In the 30s, along
with Alexandre Curt Brade, he carried out the first scientific expedition in the
Desengano State Park, in which 247 species were collected and several
unknown plants classified, especially orchids and bromeliads. Botanist
Santos Lima, as he was known, was also the founder of the Santa Maria
Madalena Forest Garden, currently bearing his name.
