Trails, circuits and traverses
This guidebook presents only day-hikes.
Important: due to their peculiarities, the system rating the difficulty level of trails,
circuits, and traverses was developed specifically for this guidebook.
To rate the difficulty level of the trails, circuits, and traverses, the following
criteria were used: duration of the hike (one way), length, topography,
infrastructure (mobile phone signal, water, signage, transportation, etc.),
conditions of the trail, orientation difficulty, height exposure, sunshine and
shade, weight of required equipment, and elevation change (gain or loss).
The difficulty level includes five categories:
Very easy: hikes that last up to 1 hour and are up to 2 km (1.2 mi) in
length. It is not physically demanding, offers minor difficulty in
orientation, has an elevation gain smaller than 170m (560 ft) and does
not require too much equipment.
Easy: hikes that last up to 2 hours and are from 1 to 5 km (0.6 - 3.1 mi) in
length. It is not physically demanding, offers minor difficulty in
orientation, has an elevation gain smaller than 250m (820 ft) and does
not require too much equipment.
Medium: hikes that last from 1 to 5 hours and are from 1 to 12 km (0.6-7.5
mi) in length. It is physically demanding, possibly offering some
difficulty in orientation, has an elevation gain up to 750m (2,460 ft) and
requires some equipment.
Difficult: hikes that last from 4 to 9 hours and are from 3 to 19 km (1.9 -
11.8 mi) in length. It is physically very demanding, has difficult
orientation, has an elevation gain up to 1.500m (2,460 ft), and requires
previous experience and proper equipment.
Very difficult: hikes that last from 3 to 4 hours and are from 3 to 4 km (1.9
- 2.5 mi) in length. It is physically very demanding, has very difficult
orientation, has an elevation gain up to 800m (2630 ft), with hazardous
height exposure, and requires previous experience and proper
equipment.
