ABSTRACT
This work begins with a theoretical approach on concepts of death and the so-called
death domada under control and area church. It presents a discussion about the
imaginary funeral and practices mortuárias and consequently an analysis of the
change of sensitivity with regard to death in the West and Brazil in the nineteenth
century that circulated in media elitist, strictly linked to the Catholic ideal. It discusses
then the question of control over the death and the dead, that is, on the organization
of death that reflects disputes among men of the Church and men of science. Finally,
seeks to present the main effect of a change of sensitivity funeral - aprofanada -
demonstrating the new fears, new forms of expressions and feelings and the process
of banning the death.
