Jane Pitfield
is her passion. Pitfield has a
heart for the city and a heart
for leadership. She has
tremendous energy, is
results driven and has a love
of people.
She is passionate about
making a difference! Jane's
politics are not dogmatic.
She is not an ideologue. She
is a pragmatist. Jane promotes
tolerance and understanding.
She will reach out
to all communities and pull
our diverse city together,
helping us to rise up to the
challenges that lie ahead.
Jane is noted for her
integrity. It was Jane who
stopped the Council salary
increase.
Jane is the only mayoral
candidate to comply with
council's voluntary lobby
registry and she has fought
nepotism and cronyism
while David Miller has
looked the other way.
Jane has saved the city
money by establishing the
"fraud waste hotline'' while
cleaning up city hall in a
very real way. Jane led the
fight against tax increases,
during the city's recent
budget debate, arguing
there was no need for this
year's 3% tax increase for
residents - it is the third
such increase since David
Miller came into office.
Jane pushed for policies
to strengthen our businesses,
such as cancellation of
the 1 % business tax hike -
also the third increase since
2003. Jane wanted to stop
the TTC fare hike, the second
such increase in just
over one year.
Toronto should be safe,
clean and affordable. Isn't it
time we took some action?
Citizens want a more
transparent and honest government.
They want better
leadership. They want to
know how their tax dollars
are spent. They want to
know why contracts are
being handed out by David
Miller without open tenders.
Why their hard earned
tax dollars are being spent
on expensive stop-gap solutions
like a $500 million
temporary landfill in
London. Why the Gardiner
Expressway report was not
released for two years.
We are facing some
very real problems. Much
of this is due to a profound
lack of leadership.
I want to change that.
And I need your help to do
it. We will reduce crime. We
will put Toronto's economy
back on the right track.
We will control spending
and make bold reforms
for our kids. Toronto will be
stronger as a result of these
changes. I believe there has
been too much talk and too
little progress.
Crime and violence are
out of control, taxes are
increasing as services
decline, people feel out of
touch with local government.
"Toronto must refocus
on creating a safe and
healthy city with a comprehensive
approach to
improving life opportunities
for all by fundamentally
changing the landscape of
the city to significantly
improve the well being of
residents and attitudes of
young people.
"Every Toronto resident
has the right to live in safety.
I don't want Toronto to
become another crime-ridden
city ... with people fleeing
to other communities,
tourists afraid to come here,
businesses pulling out."

O Teatro Velma Rogers tem uma
capacidade limitada, demasiado limitada
para a quantidade de pessoas que vão querer
testemunhar o debate, pelo que o mesmo
será apenas por convites, não estando o
mesmo aberto ao público em geral.
As Federações de Comerciantes e
Empresários Chinesa, Italiana, Sul-Asiática
e Portuguesa, tem o prazer de anunciar a coapresentação
do debate pré-elitoral, com a
participação de David Miller, Jane Pitfield e
Stephen LeDrew.
Este debate será levado a efeito na
Segunda-feira, dia 30 de Outubro, pelas 19
horas, no Teatro Velma Rogers, 333 Bloor
St. West, dando a possibilidade única dos
candidatos responderem a questões importantes
a todos os comerciantes e
empresários das origens chinesa, italiana,
sul-asiática e portuguesa.
Cada uma das organizações colocará
questões que reflictam os aspectos sociais e
comercias de maior importância em cada
uma das suas comunidades e, de um modo
geral, de maior importância para todos
quantos residem na cidade de Toronto.
Serão escolhidas duas perguntas de cada
organização, para um total de oito, às quais
o moderador do debate adicionará outras
quatro, para um total de 12.
A OMNI-TV vai gravar o debate, para
depois apresentar o mesmo em cada um dos
