30 20 a 26 de Outubro de 2006 O Milénio/Stadium... Às Sextas-feiras, bem pertinho de si! PCGA CONTINENTE-MADEIRA GANHA "TAÇA CAMÕES"! A Associação de Golfe Luso-Canadiana realizou o seu primeiro Torneio Anual "Taça Camões", no prestigioso Glen Abbey Golf Clun in Oakville. Doze jogadores oriundos do Continente e da Madeira, contra doze jogadores oriundos dos Açores, divididos em equipas que foram formadas de acordo com os princípios registados na Ryder Cup, torneio bianual que os profissionais americanos levam a cabo, com uma equipa formada pelos melhores 12 golfistas americanos, contra outra equipa de 12 golfistas da Europa. Foi este o formato que levou a PCGA a organizar esta competição, a qual teve um êxito espectacular. Cada quarteto tinha dois jogadores de cada equipa, com os primeiros nove buracos a serem disputados sob o principio do pior score de cada equipa a ser utilizado para cada buraco. Os segundos-nove buracos (back-nine), foram disputados com base na comparação do score de cada golfista perante o seu adversário da outra equipa. Um total de 3 pontos para cada equipa, com a possibilidade de redução de 1 ponto ou de ½ ponto. A equipa Continente & Madeira (António Silva, Mário Santos, Manny Augusto, Adelino Campinos, Valdy Serrano, Andrew Martins, Rui Martins, Manny Coelho, António Fontes, Frank Antunes, Jack Martins e Nelson Lopes) acabou por sair vencedora, com um total de 11,5 pontos, num total de 18, enquanto a equipa Açores (José Nunes - Pacheco, Fernando Pinheiro, José Barcelos, Joey Tavares, Luciano Pereira, Adalberto Vieira, Victor Dias, António Coelho, Luís Lima, Jerry Pimentel, José Melo e Fernando Pimentel), apenas conseguiu 6,5 pontos. Team Continente Team & Madeira Açores Front Nine - Team Match Play 3.5 2.5 Back Nine - Individual Match Play "A" 4.0 2.0 Back Nine - Individual Match Play "B" 4.0 2.0 Total 11.5 6.5 Para além dos 24 golfistas que formaram as duas equipas que disputaram a Taça Camões 2006, outros 57 sócios da Associação de Golfe Luso-Canadiana e convidados, tiveram a oportunidade de jogar neste magnífico percurso onde se disputaram inúmeros Campeonatos do Canada (Open Canada), incluindo aquele em que Tigre Woods saiu vencedor no ano 2000. PCGA holds the first annual Camões Cup of golf Continent & Madeira versus Azores The Portuguese Canadian Golfers Association (PCGA) held the first annual Camões Cup golf tournament this past Sunday October 15th, at the prestigious and challenging Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville. This tournament pitted 12 players from Portugal's mainland and the island of Madeira (Team Continente & Madeira) against 12 players from the Portuguese arquipelago of Azores (Team Acores) and was formatted after the Ryder Cup a bi-annual tournament where the best professional golfers from the USA play against a team of the best from Europe. Qualifications to represent each team was based on a point accumulation system used during the many events held by the PCGA in 2006 resulting in the top 12 players being eligible to represent their geographical heritage region. Each foursome had two players from each team; the first nine holes were played using a team match play concept where the lowest score from each team was used for scoring the hole. The back nine holes were played based on an individual match play concept were the score of each player was compared to his opponent on the other team. A total of 3 points were available to each foursome, a win on the front the front nine would yield 1 point while a tie would yield ½ point. The back nine holes could yield an additional point per player for an outright win and again ½ point for a tie and since two players per team were competing then an additional 2 point were available to each team. Team Continente & Madeira (António Silva, Mário Santos, Manny Augusto, Adelino Campinos, Valdy Serrano, Andrew Martins, Rui Martins, Manny Coelho, António Fontes, Frank Antunes, Jack Martins e Nelson Lopes) came out victorious winning a total of 11.5 of the total 18 points available compared with 6.5 to Team Acores (José Nunes - Pacheco, Fernando Pinheiro, José Barcelos, Joey Tavares, Luciano Pereira, Adalberto Vieira, Victor Dias, António Coelho, Luís Lima, Jerry Pimentel, José Melo e Fernando Pimentel), as follows: Team Continente Team & Madeira Acores Front Nine - Team Match Play 3.5 2.5 Back Nine - Individual Match Play "A" 4.0 2.0 Back Nine - Individual Match Play "B" 4.0 2.0 Total 11.5 6.5 In addition to the 24 players involved in the Camões Cup competition an additional 57 PCGA members and guest also played on the same day at this challenging course where many memorable Canadian Open Championship have been held including the memorable win by Tiger Woods in 2000.
