(1976, Kitzbühel, Áustria) Estudou na Academia de
Cinema de Viena. Realizou várias curtas metragens
e actualmente está a trabalhar na pós-produção
do seu primeiro documentário Outing. Stilleben é
a sua primeira longa metragem de ficção.

and is currently working on the postproduction of
his first feature documentary Outing. Still Life is
his first feature fiction film.

A tragédia de um homem perseguido pela atracção que sente pela
filha. Será imoral? Para alguns sim. Será ilegal? Se não for expressado,
não. Stilleben pode bem ser um dos filmes mais tristes e ao mesmo
tempo dos mais engraçados do ano, constituindo a simples definição
de tragédia. Resumindo: se o teu nome não é Lolita e o teu padrasto
é o teu pai biológico, pode ser embaraçoso. Quão proibido é um pai
dormir com prostitutas e dar-lhes o nome da filha? Ou masturbar-se
a olhar para fotografias dela em criança? Um objecto óbvio para ele,
incapaz de se relacionar com ela de forma emocional, despoletou uma
paixão que atravessa a vida familiar. Uma tragédia repleta de vergonha
e da culpa que rodeia a existência humana.
The tragedy of a man driven by the sexual desire for his daughter. Is it
immoral? For some yes. Is it illegal? If it’s not expressed then no. Still
Life could be one of the saddest and at the same time the funniest films
of the year, constituting the simplest definition of tragedy. To make the
long story short, if your name is not Lolita and your stepfather is your
biological father it can be embarassing. How forbbiden is for a father
to sleep with prostitutes naming them after his daughter and jerkking
off with her childhood photos. An obvious object for him, unable to
relate with her in a emotional way created an infatuation throughout
his family life. A modern family tragedy filled with all the shame and
guilt that surrounds the human existence.

O que o pai faz é o resultado de uma compulsão interior e não há resposta
clara para a questão moral que se coloca (é certo ou errado?), é algo que cabe
a cada um resolver. As reacções individuais dos membros da família mostram-
-nos o quão incapazes são de julgar o pai ou o marido.
What the father does is the result of an inner compulsion, and there’s no clear
answer to the question of whether it’s morally right or wrong, it’s something that
everyone has to address for themselves. The individual family members’ reactions
show how helpless and lost they are in passing judgment on their father
and husband.
