Venham conhecer o centro de refugiados mais alucinado
da Escócia, nesta comédia negra sarcástica. Dois
homens peculiares procuram asilo e um modo de vida
num mundo absurdo que mistura a realidade desumana
da democracia e, como consequência, uma terra de
ninguém onde os factos se dissolvem em sonhos de
uma existência melhor.
Meet the craziest refugee centre in Scotland in this
sarcastic dark comedy. Two passionate asylum-seekers
are trying to make their way in an absurd world mixing
the bureaucratic inhuman reality and, as a consequence,
a no-man’s land where reality melts into
dreams of a better life.

Joern Utkilen
(1971, Bergen, Noruega) Com 3 anos, os pais de Joern obrigaram-no
a mudar-se para Oslo. Seguiu-se Farnham, Inglaterra, onde estudou
cinema. Hoje vive na Escócia e trocou a cidade pelo campo.
(1971, Bergen, Norway) At the age of three, Joern’s parents forced
him to move to Oslo. Then he moved to Farnham in England to study
film. Scotland’s quiet countryside is his home now.

O baile de finalistas é um rito de passagem, com as suas
raízes selvagens devidamente camufladas sob os vestidos
de gala. Através de um longo plano, em câmara
lenta, acompanhamos a transformação do evento num
ritual primário, que inclui um sacrifício e a habitual fotografia
de grupo a confirmar a manutenção da ordem.
A Formal is a rite of passage with its savage roots
living oblivious under prom dresses. A long shot, in
slow motion, allows us to follow the transformation of
the event into a primary ritual, with a sacrifice and the
usual group photo that states that all is well and order
preserved.

Andrew Kavanagh
Escritor e realizador que trabalha em Melbourne, licenciado pela Victorian
College of Arts. At the Formal, o seu filme de fim de curso, já
ganhou vários prémios e segue-se Men of the Earth.
He is a Melbourne based writer/director and a graduate of the Victorian
College of the Arts. His 2010 graduating film At the Formal has
won numerous awards and Men of the Earth will be released this year.
