Co-Advisers: Carlos Cardoso Machado and Luciano José Minette.This study was conducted on an eucalypt population belonging to aMinas Gerais state forestry company, with the objective to evaluatetechnically and economically a harvester machine in different terrain slopeand forestry productivity. The technical analysis consisted in the study oftimes and movements objecting to identify the operational cycle elements ofthe machine, as well as it’s variations due to the terrain and forestproductivity. The economical analysis consisted in determining theoperational costs. The terrain slope was stratified in flat, wavy and rough andthe forest was divided in low, medium and high productivities. The simplecasual sample was used in nine different situations related to slope andforest productivity. In each situation were installed plots from witch datarelated to the trees were collected, allowing to estimate the individual treevolume, the density per hectare and the total wood volume per hectare. Alsoin each plot was determined the time spent for the harvester to process eachplot and calculated it’s yield for every situation. According to the results, it’spossible to conclude that the machine’s yield decreases with the increase ofxiv
the slope, and increases with the increase of the individual tree volume untila maximum point, from witch it tends to decrease. A statistical model waselaborated do predict the operational yield of the harvester machinecontemplating the variables individual tree volume, terrain slope and the totalvolume per hectare. With this model was possible to estimate the operationalyield and consequently the production cost with the harvester machine indifferent situations, allowing to or not to choose to harvest forest with thismachine.xv
