Pretendemos, primeiramente, dar continuidade aos bons tra- Não podemos esperar por políticas públicas para avançar the main criteria for selecting and approving new members. The Association’s focus is not necessarily on attracting new members but on strengthening the Association and the Sector as a whole. How does ACR work in partnership with other associations? We work very closely with the State of Paraná Association of Forest-based Companies (Apre) and the State of Rio Grande do Sul Association of Forestry Companies (Ageflor). So much so that the three associations from the Southern Region of Brazil form the Southern Brazilian Association of Forestry Companies (Asbr). That’s because we have very similar realities. Pine planted forests are predominantly in the Southern Region. So, the whole chain shares the same problems, challenges, and solutions. Our forests see no borders, so nothing is more intelligent than acting together. The associations from the South also jointly manage the National Forest Pest Control Fund (Funcema). At the national level, we are part of IBÁ, of which all state forest-based associations are part. So, there is a substantial union; together, we work in the Chamber of Planted Forests Sector of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (Mapa) and on several other fronts involving Federal Legislation. What are ACR’s ESG goals? Not only for ACR, but the Forestry Sector of Santa Catarina, as a whole, and the member companies have already worked on Environmental, Social, and Governance issues long before the term ESG began to be part of the daily life of organizations. The Forestry Sector is very well organized, and if it weren’t, it wouldn’t be able to prosper. It wouldn’t be competitive. It is a sector that depends on environmental balance and is also one of the most environmentally preserving sectors. In the social part, we have many companies that work with their communities, offering courses, training, and opportunities. And that’s recorded in our numbers. We have noticed a significant advance in the human development rates of the cities where the primary forest centers in the State of Santa Catarina are located. Therefore, companies need increasingly qualified professionals. This increases the level of qualification of people working in the area and, consequently, remuneration. ESG’s third item, Governance, is also very present and is not just today. We see company managers very well prepared, with international experiences, and teams planning their areas in the short, medium, and long term. Compliance clauses and certifications are all very well programmed. How does the Association select the themes of the courses offered? We usually consult with the member companies about their foremost needs and concerns. Based on these surveys, we search for available professionals qualified to meet the expectations and demands of our members. Some themes also arise with market movements.
