The purpose of this paper was to develop the principles and criteria for identifi cation, classifi<br />
cation and mapping of the landscape systems of the Middle Prut River Plain, a territorial<br />
unit which has a considerable landscape diversity. The methodology for analysis of landscapes<br />
as systemic units is based on identifi cation of geographical spatial structures. Remote sensing<br />
techniques were used as a means for analysis. The identifi cation and mapping of landscapes<br />
was done by modeling of environmental components, and the modeling results were integrated<br />
into a geographic information system. The limits of landscape units were traced mainly along<br />
the thalwegs of the valleys, riverbeds or limits of fl oodplain and river terraces. In addition, the<br />
boundaries were drawn at interfl uvial peaks and saddles, in both cases taking into account the<br />
characteristics of soil, geologic substrate, land cover, etc.<br />

ASSESSMENT OF WASTE IMPACT ON THE CHISINAU URBAN ECOSYSTEM<br />

The research on the relation between the pollutant mass contained in the Bic River water<br />
and its volume has resulted in establishment of a regularity due to which the pollutant mass<br />
introduced to the city by the Bic River water, discharges to the river from the Chisinau City surface,<br />
and the water volume evacuated from the urban area depend on the water volume, while it<br />
correlates with the atmospheric precipitation amount. The studies on the negative waste impact,<br />
assessed by determination of the fl oristic algae diversity according to Margalef allowed the establishment<br />
of a regularity of the dependence of this index on the pollution degree in the section<br />
investigated. The studies on the negative waste impact on ecosystems revealed a regularity of<br />
the dependence of the negative impact value on the pollution level in this section.<br />
