European Day for Border Guards
It is the third time when FRONTEX celebrates European border guards/border policemen, on the 24 th
of May 2012, in Warsaw, Republic of Poland, at the headquarters of the Agency, within the festivities
of European Day for Border Guards. This year, same as the previous years, through the voice of the
Executive Director of Frontex, Mr. Ilkka Laitinen, the message of appreciation and recognition of the
difficult and challenging work was extended to our colleagues working in the border crossing points,
within the border surveillance teams, border seamen, criminalistics specialists, analysts, operational
officers, operators, to those working in the support structures and to all who contribute to ensuring an
integrated security of all European citizens, through the protection of EU external borders. Page 4
General presentation of Italy and of the Central Directorate for Immigration and Border Police. This
Directorate was set up through Law nr. 189 from 30 July 2002, also known as Bossi-Fini Law, on the
legislation referring to immigration and asylum: The Directorate is subordinated to the Public Security
Department within the Ministry of Interior. The new organization of the Directorate intends to create
a structure which will develop specific intervention strategies regarding the migration phenomenon, to
ensure a more rapid and efficient border control, as well as to train its personnel in the field of public

Certification of the Quality Management System of Romanian Border Police – RBP is the first authority of
public order and security which obtained the certification of the quality management system, according
to ISO standard (The International Certification Network) 9001:2008, a global network, made up of
the most important certification bodies worldwide. Page 13
