Hamnen och utrikeshandeln
Hamnen har byggts upp med bryggor, kajer
och sjöbodar, magasin och våghus för att markera
handelns, sjöfartens och fiskets viktiga
roller i stadens näringsliv. Här känner man doften
av sältran, humle och fisk, ser prov på
stångjärn, kläde och skinn. Vid de gamla tillläggsplatserna
Munkbron och Kornhamn på
mälarsidan, Kogghamn och Fiskestrand åt Saltsjön
sammanstrålade Stockholms handelsvägar
från det närmaste omlandet, från rikets kustprovinser
och inland och från kontinenten, där
hansestäderna med Lubeck i spetsen lagt under
sig både export och import.

fishing to the town's economy. Here you might
catch the smell of seal oil mingled with that of
hops and the ta ng of fish while looking at
samples of bar iron, cloth and furs. The ancient
landing places are where the trade routes of
Stockholm converged, both from surrounding
areas, the coastal ports and inland areas of the
realm, as weIl as from the Continent where the
Hanseatic towns were mainly in controi of both
exports and imports.
