Finally, Summer is here! It’s that time of year when we pack our bags, gather<br />

our loved ones together <strong>and</strong> jet off to an exotic destination for a few days of rest,<br />

relaxation <strong>and</strong> indulgence. What are you most looking forward to? One thing no one<br />

ever wants to return with is excess weight—<strong>and</strong> we’re not talking about your suitcase.<br />

Is it possible to enjoy a healthy holiday without denying yourself every pleasure? Yes!<br />

Take Your Body on Holiday<br />

For many of us, a break from the day-to-day stresses of<br />

normal <strong>life</strong> means doing very little <strong>and</strong> indulging in the<br />

local cuisine without worrying about our waist-lines. While<br />

there’s no denying that this provides a certain kind of mental<br />

relaxation, your body needs something rather different.<br />

We’ve learned to equate holidays with excess, so it isn’t<br />

uncommon to return from a two-week vacation to find the<br />

weighing scales displaying a heavier number. This then<br />

creates stress <strong>and</strong> bad feeling as you berate yourself for all<br />

those holiday treats <strong>and</strong> embark on a grueling diet regime<br />

to lose the weight.<br />

It doesn’t have to be this way.<br />

Take your body on holiday with you. After all, it needs a<br />

break too! Ask yourself, what does it want? It’s natural to<br />

want to indulge while on holiday, but making informed<br />

decisions about what you eat will help you enjoy your<br />

holiday much more. Choosing healthier foods will help you<br />

feel vibrant, energetic <strong>and</strong> full of enthusiasm—which is, after<br />

Indulge<br />

You don’t have to give everything up on holiday! Once a day,<br />

indulge in a treat of your choice. Do you want to enjoy that<br />

traditional ice-cream by the beach, or that local delicacy the<br />

tour-guide told you about? Deciding what to indulge in <strong>and</strong><br />

what to avoid is empowering: you’re no longer simply following<br />

an impulse, you are making conscious decisions about what you<br />

choose to eat. This strategy is something you can do in everyday<br />

living, as well as on holiday.<br />
