부분과 전체 I Part and Whole
의상은 인체의 형상( 形 象 )을 근간으로 만들어진 입체 조형이
다. 우리는 평면적 재료를 곡선 또는 직선으로 잘라서 여러 개
의 조각들을 만들고 이것을 잇고 붙여서 입체적 형태의 조형
물을 완성한다. 의상을 이루는 조각들은 독립된 평면조각으
로의 본질적 특성보다는 자립적 혹은 비자립적인 부분으로
써 상호적으로 융합하여 의상이라는 구조물로 합일되어진다.
이로써 조각들은 전체 속의 부분으로써 구조 내의 관계에 의
해 정의되고 부분들의 합보다는 더 큰 의미를 부여받게 된다.
나는 의상을 구성하는 조각들의 연결을 끊고 처음의 낱개의
조각으로 되돌려 보았다. 그리고 이분법적 서열을 해체하고
절대적 질서와 관습적인 사고에 반하여 재배치하였다. 전체
를 원소로 환원시키고 재구성하는 과정을 통해 관계성( 關 係
性 )의 틀 안에서 상대화( 相 對 化 ) 된 부분들의 본연의 아름다
움과 존재 가치를 되새겨본다.
-부분들의 합은 언제나 전체 그 이상의 의미를 창조한다.
The costume is a three-dimensional modeling based on
the shape of the human body. We cut the planar material
into several pieces with curves or straight lines and
piece them together to complete the three-dimensional
modeling. The pieces that make up the costume are
integrated into its structure by being mutually fused
together as independent or non-independent parts,
rather than as separate flat pieces retaining their essential
characteristics. Consequently, the pieces are parts of
the whole, defined by the relations in the structure, and
have greater meaning than the sum of the parts.
I disconnected the pieces that made up the costume
and returned them to their original form. Further, I
disassembled the dichotomous levels and rearranged
them against absolute order and conventional thinking.
Through the process of reducing and reconstructing the
whole into elements, we recall the beauty of the individual
pieces and the value of existence that was relativized
as parts within the framework of the relationship.
-The sum of the parts always creates a whole new meaning.
