1999 a total of 113 Kuwaitis received
scholarship, successfully completing
their studies, serving in the
ranks of Master & Chief Engineer
and progressing to senior positions
in Head Office.
Today, we are proud that we have
29 Kuwaiti officers working onboard
our vessels; 14 of them graduated
from KOTC’s Scholarship scheme.
KOTC has also 23 marine students
studying in UK. By 2020, we expect
to have around 102 Kuwaiti officers
working onboard our fleet. We are
proud of the high level of professionalism
demonstrated by graduates of
the Scholarship Programme. They

and spend years in field work in the
middle of the sea, graduating with a
world-class level of professionalism,
while demonstrating patriotism, loyalty
and national belonging.

the pirates, Captain Salem felt that

Giving an example of the excellence
of KOTC’s scholarship programme
graduates, Captain Ahmed
Salem told us about his experience
in 2008 when his tanker Al Jabriya
was attacked by pirates who hijacked
the ship in front of him and the one
behind after him but he refused to
surrender. Despite the confusion of
the crew and the lack of equipment
or weapons on the tanker at the time
