Speaking about the importance of<br />
maritime training and education, HRH<br />
Princess Sarah Al Saud, Director of<br />
Maritime Business Development at<br />
AASTMT highlighted the academy’s<br />
role in facing training challenges in<br />
the region. She explained, “Maritime<br />
education and training must be of a<br />
high and consistent quality, throughout<br />
the world. Therefore, the European<br />
Commission accredited both<br />
the educational and maritime training<br />
systems, and certification systems<br />
adopted by the academy. The<br />
recognition of the Academy as an<br />
academic nautical institution in accordance<br />
with the requirements of<br />
the European Union Parliament allows<br />
the Academy graduates to work<br />
on EU vessels.”<br />
Breakbulk possesses future opportunities<br />
Abdulla Bin Damithan, Commercial<br />
Director - UAE Region at DP World<br />
described breakbulk as one of trade’s<br />
"most promising sectors". He also<br />
said that while the sector possesses<br />
its own share of challenges for 2018,<br />
the overall outlook was "encouraging"<br />
and that breakbulk remained a<br />
"source of opportunity for the region.”<br />
To maintain sustainable growth, he<br />
urged industry in the region to "work<br />
together" to promote the industry<br />
and to further simplify the supply<br />
chain. Regionally, Bin Damithan said,<br />
the market was looking at recovery.<br />
Growth in infrastructure investment<br />
in Dubai in particular was being driven<br />
by construction for Expo 2020.<br />
"DP World is preparing to handle an<br />
increase of project cargo in connection<br />
with the Expo," he added.<br />

The third annual conference was<br />
held at ADNEC from 6-7 February<br />
2018 welcoming 70 exhibitors, 30<br />
speakers and 2000 delegates. In addition<br />
to the exhibition, the event offered<br />

seminars, all of which are free<br />
for attendees, as well as networking<br />
