To Sławomir Witkowski, Piotr Kazigrotowski, Jacek Staniszewski
i Krzysztof Stojałowski.
A skoro z tej katedry wywodzi się już trzeci rektor gdańskiej Akademii, należy sądzić, iż ma
się ona nieźle.
Niewiele pozostało do dodania.
Autoironiczny klimat rozmów i sporów, dystans do wszelkich ram i ograniczeń. Solidny
profesjonalizm, specyficzne poczucie humoru i przyjacielskie związki ze studentami. Przez
jakiś czas pracowali również: Jan Lorenczuk, Piotr Kowalski, Jerzy Ostrogórski – obecnie
profesor prowadzący pracownię podstaw rysunku i malarstwa, Bogdan Bartkowski, Marek
Brzozowski, Grzegorz Protasiuk – teraz prowadzi samodzielne pracownię typografii i przekazu
wizualnego, Andrzej Kuich, Jadwiga i Zygmunt Okrassowie – po długiej przerwie
prowadzą obecnie pracownię podstaw projektowania graficznego, Cyprian Kościelniak,
Mieczysław Wasilewski i Mariusz Sładczyk.
Najwcześniej, bo już w 1979 roku dołączył Zdzisław Walicki. Przypatrywał się nam z niejakim
powątpiewaniem, wyraźnie zatroskany stanem naszych umysłów – zostało mu to do
dzisiaj.
Potem, w 1983 roku – Tomasz Bogusławski ” Mogłabym odtańczyć ten fotel”– twierdziła
Isadora Duncan. Bogusławski, obecnie jeden z najoryginalniejszych polskich plakacistów,
codziennie uświadamia nam zalety takich paradoksów.
prof. Jerzy Krechowicz Graphic Design – First Years
Perhaps this was not a majestic appearance, but what else could have been done? Who
would be concerned, anyway? The newborn was talked about already, and they even
changed its gender.
And this is how I remember this.
Applied Graphic Arts is now referred to as Graphic Design so, at least to same extent, it
managed to regain its gender.
It was October of 1967. First designing classes had just started and, naturally, the Toothed
Ostrich was there, as mentioned by Jerzy Zabłocki even before we entered the studio.
The Sand Toothed Ostrich, however, was also proposed on some other occasions. The
discrepancy between the assumption and the total fantasy may come as the disturbing
one, so it would be better not to deny anything.
On the one hand, The Toothed Ostrich poses a warning against the approaching problems,
but also a reluctant admiration for their twisted nature, on the other. The business of
the graphic designing is almost entirely something between the scholasticism and the
maniac’s diary, and only the moral imperative can guarantee a temporary frankness of our
intention. Therefore, if you still keep wondering whom and against what Zabłocki meant
Time has already blurred many names and face, shifted facts and circumstances; perhaps it
has even added something? Yet voices, scents and the pulse of those days are still with
us.
The Great Armory (Wielka Zbrojownia) has not always anchored in the same place, it still
goes on being unforeseeable as could be expected of an aging femme fatale. On that
Thursday, though, it found itself exactly where it should have been. One could have
known that it was supposed to be on that day, but when this delirious hallucination
emerged, splashing everybody around, nobody was able to recover from bewilderment.
One expects God knows what, and there you have it, this dwarf leviathan!
No longer than the length of five dachshunds, as someone maliciously estimated. But what
else could have been expected? And, what is even more, that was supposed to be exactly
what we deserved, as remarked by some bastard.
Strangely enough, the consternation soon changed into a timid approval, and even some
false admiration, like the one that is usually bestowed upon the newborn child of a neighbor.
Therefore, we started to look at our dwarf more attentively, still with some disbelief,
but also with some worry.
