is truly carried away by “these sensational meetings”.
All these businesspeople had taken part in one of the
more than one hundred conventions held in Salzburg
every year – and could hardly wait to return to the
leading conference region at the heart of Europe.
But it’s not just that central location that makes
the City and Region of Salzburg the perfect places to
organise conferences and conventions of every kind,
including product presentations, training courses,
sales meetings and annual meetings. There are also
the unmatched technical standards at the conference
centres, the short distances between the hotels and
locations (especially in Mozart’s home city of
Salzburg itself) and the political and social stability,
all good reasons for the 24 million overnight stays the
city and region accumulate every year. This comprehensive
product is rounded off by a wide-ranging
cultural and tourism industry throughout the region,
throughout the year, which includes 185 lakes,
7,200 km of hiking paths, 1,700 kilometres of pistes
and 18 golf courses.
“Salzburg’s central location makes it just perfect,”
says Markus Oberhamberger of Brandboxx, one of the
region’s leading providers of conference locations,
offering 6,500 square metres of events space. “Its
transportation connections are also amazing.” For 25
years now, major companies ranging from Adeg to
Spar, Porsche and Danish company Bettenlager have
been organising some 30 major conferences a year here.
Around 600 brands in the Brandboxx portfolio have
now opened permanent showrooms here.
Daniela Minatti is equally enthusiastic about
amadeus-terminal2 at Salzburg Airport, where
conferences for between 200 and 1,700 guests are held
on floor space of around 2,600 square metres. “These
can range from major product presentations for new
models by VW or Mercedes to more traditional
corporate conventions,” Minatti says. “Many clients
value the fact that they we can give their guests
access by charter airline directly to the entrance of the
event.”
Guests who would rather hold their meeting at the
heart of Mozart’s home city, on the other hand, will
almost certainly be better off staying at the Castellani
Parkhotel. With five seminar rooms, total floor
space of 370 square metres and capacity for up to
250 people, this newly-renovated first-class design
hotel – a listed building – is perfectly suited to more
intimate events. “Our motto is ‘modern meets
classic’, and the thinking behind that motto is a
recurring theme throughout the hotel,” says
Marketing Manager Sabine Hackl. “All our clients, no
matter whether they are opera lovers, individuals or
business guests, value this unmistakeable ambience.”
The City and Region of Salzburg offer five major
conference and event sites each, according to the
Salzburg Convention Bureau, a service centre
specialising in this tourism sector. As well as a
wide-ranging product range – including the latest
technical equipment, top gastronomic services, and
unique leisure-time activities – all these locations
have a secret weapon, a little something the
Austrians refer to as a ‘Zuckerl’, or sweetener: the
Salzburg Conference Fund. If you hold a convention
here for 250 international participants or more and
stay for at least two nights, then that event will
qualify for support from the region of anything up to
11,000 euros. q
