Computer Simulation Studies of Membranes
and Membrane Bound Species: The Continuing
Challenge of Bridging Time and Length Scales

The talk will review recent attempts to develop so-called coarse
grain (CG) models of phospholipids that are able to self assemble
into membrane-like bilayer structures. The CG model has
been extended to allow the study the spontaneous insertion of
membrane-bound species such as nanotubes and anti-bacterial
polymers. The CG model has recently been further elaborated to
deal with di-block copolymers that can assemble into a variety
of structures, including cell-like mimics. The talk will conclude
with a discussion of possible future work using CG models.
