Imaging Technologies – ein Ausstellungsprojekt Das transdisziplinäre Projekt
des Fachbereichs Ausstellungsdesign und kuratorische Praxis entwickelt zusammen mit
MK Fotografie eine Ausstellungskonzeption als Beitrag zur ausstehenden Historisierung des
Genres operativer Bilder und neuer bildgebender Technologien. Der Fokus liegt
darauf, die Kontexte zu untersuchen, in denen operative Bilder heute eine zu-
nehmend wichtige Rolle spielen. Operative Bilder sind dabei nicht nur als abbildende oder
repräsentierende Datenkartografien zu verstehen, sondern als informationsgestaltende
Agenten, welche diese Räume auch produzieren.
Imaging Technologies – An Exhibition Project The transdisciplinary project by
the departments of Photography and Exhibition and Curatorial Design develops a curatorial
concept for an exhibition, which is considered to make a contribution to the pending his-
toricization of the genre of operative images and new imaging technologies. The project con-
centrates on analyzing the contexts in which operative images are today playing an ever
more important role. Operative images are not meant to be read as illustrating and repre-
senting data cartographies, but to a large extent are seen as information formatting agents,
which produce various types of space.
Typen – ein Raumatlas Im Gegensatz zum Theater besitzt das Museum keine eigene
typologische Architekturgeschichte. Eher scheint es sich bei den Museumsräumen überwiegend
um Aneignungen bestehender Strukturen für den Zweck des Ausstellens zu handeln.
Erst im ausgehenden 18. und verstärkt im 19. Jahrhundert entstehen in Europa Museumstypologien,
doch entwickeln sie sich weder einheitlich noch linear. Mit der Verwendung von
Fabriken, Lagerhäusern und anderen umgenutzten Gebäuden für Kunstausstellungen ist das
Museum heute wieder Objekt räumlicher Aneignungen.
Das Seminar hat durch Recherche und Diskussion der Studierenden eine Auswahl historischer
Architekturen erarbeitet, die als Genealogien räumlicher Typologien wie Enfilade,
Galerie, Halle, Pavillon und Landschaft gesehen werden können. Sie stellen zugleich eine
Reihe von Ausstellungsarchitekturen in Form typologischer Aneignung und Variation dar.
Durch zeichnerische Darstellung eines Kataloges historischer und zeitgenössischer Räume
lassen sich gerade an den Übergängen, Brüchen und Kreuzungen der typologischen Raum-
formen Innovationen und Durchbrüche des Ausstellens im Raum sichtbar machen.
Types – An Atlas of Spaces In contrast to the architecture of theatre, museum build-
ings do not have their own typological history of architecture. It rather seems that museum
spaces have adopted existing structures for the purpose of exhibiting. Museum typologies
emerged in Europe not before the end of the 18th but increasingly in the 19th century; how-
ever, they did not develop in a uniform or linear manner. Using factories, warehouses and
other abandoned buildings for art exhibitions, today’s museum is once again the object of a
spatial appropriation.
Through student work, research and discussion, the seminar analysed a selection of historical
architectures that can be considered genealogies of spatial typologies; such as, enfilade,
gallery, hall, pavilion, and landscape. Compiled as a catalogue of architectural drawings,

these genealogies represent a series of exhibition architectures as typological appropriations
and variations. Innovations and breakthroughs in the history of exhibitions emerge
through the transitions, breaks and conjunctions of typological spaces that are present in
