FachkräfteGuinness: an Irish OriginalAn experience about one of the most famous beer brands in the world – GuinnessIt all started in 1759 with a man named Arthur Guinnessleasing a brewery called St. James' Gate Brewery and signinga 9,000 year contract for beer brewing.In1769 a few barrels made their way to England andwere able to begin a wave of export that would last forover many years. Arthur Guinness died in 1803 so his sontook over the business with another business partner namedGossett. In the 1830s Guinness was the most famous beerin Ireland. The brewery kept on growing and in 1886 it wasthe largest brewery in the world. In 1974 they made thelast barrel in St. James' Gate but moved back there in 1997.The brewery is still one of the most advanced in the worldand the labels now state 'brewed in Dublin'.Today the Guinness Brewery is the third biggest breweryin Dublin. Their biggest foreign brewery is in Nigeria.Guinness produces about 3 million beer bottles per day andyou can buy the beer in over 100 different countries. The visitor center of the factory was built in 1902 and finishedin 1904. It is a steel construction and in the middlethere is the world's largest beer glass. But it is not for drinking, you can walk into it and look up to the top. It is bigenough to fill it with more than 8 million liters of Guinness. In the building there is also a big waterfall, 15 foot highhops plants and copper casks. The building has six floorsand a basement. On the top floor the visitors can find a place for drinkingand enjoying the best beer of the world and to see themagnificent panoramic view: The Gravity Bar. A purchasedticket includes a free Guinness or a non alcoholic drink. Andyou stand at the highest point in Dublin. On our tour through the factory we first walked throughthe exhibition, where we got information on production, the ingredients and the transport of Guinness. After that,we learned some interesting facts about their advertising, for example that the company opened a zoo where the visitorscan see exotic animals and can also buy Guinness. Onthe third floor we could test our knowledge about responsibledrinking. The following floor was the most interestingone. There was a big social media wall where we could writesome impressions on computers about Guinness and thenwe could see them on the wall."Before I came to Ireland I didn'tthink about what it would be like, Iwanted to be surprised. And it reallysurprised me that Dublin lookslike a little city because there arevery small houses and no skyscrapers. After school we had somefree time in Dublin and it wasgreat. The city centre is fantasticand the architecture is very impressiveespecially Trinity College. Wealso visited interesting companieslike Butlers Chocolate and Guinness.Sometimes the English washard to understand but we madeit. I really like the idea of goingback to Ireland when I'm older."Nadine from SC ThumEnglish on the Emerald IsleHow an Italian spreads the English language to thousands of people from all overthe worldIn a globalized world it is very essential to communicateeffectively in English.Ireland is a great place for international education.
