Bestimmung der Avogadrokonstante mit
angereichertem Silizium-28
Das internationale Avogadro-Projekt hat einen
Meilenstein erreicht: Mithilfe eines Einkristalls
aus hochangereichertem 28 Si ist jetzt
die Avogadro-Konstante mit einer relativen
Gesamtmessunsicher heit von 3 · 10 –8 so genau
wie nie zuvor gemessen worden. Im Rahmen
der Ki logramm-Neudefinition ermöglicht der
Wert N = 6,02214078(18) · 10
A
genaueste Realisierung dieser Einheit.
In einer Kooperation mit Forschungsinstituten
in Russland starteten 2003 mehrere nationale
Metrologieinstitute zusammen mit dem Bureau
International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM)
den ehrgeizigen Plan, etwa 5 kg hochangereichertes
28 Si (99,99 %) als Einkristall für eine
genaue Bestimmung der Avogadrokonstante
herstellen zu lassen. Mit einem Röntgeninterferometer
wurde am italienischen Metrologieinstitut
(INRIM) der Gitterparameter
entlang einer Verschiebestrecke von 50 mm
schrittweise bestimmt und durch Vergleichsmessungen
mit einem natürlichen Si-Kristall
am amerikanischen NIST bestätigt. Das Kugelvolumen
wurde optisch mit Interferometern
unterschiedlicher Strahlgeometrien in den
Arbeitsgruppen in der PTB und den Metrologieinstituten
Australiens (NMI-A) und Japans
Determination of the Avogadro constant
with enriched silicon-28
The international Avogadro project has reached
a milestone: With the aid of a single crystal of
highly enriched 28Si, the Avogadro constant has
now been measured as exactly as never before
with a relative overall standard uncertainty of
3 · 10 –8 . Within the scope of the redefinition of
the kilogram, the value N = 6.02214082(18) ·
A
1023 mol –1 permits the currently most exact realization
of this unit.
In 2003, several national metrology institutes
launched – together with the Bureau International
des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) and in a
cooperation with research institutes in Russia
– the ambitious project of having approximately
5 kg of highly enriched 28 Si (99.99%) manufactured
as a single crystal for an exact determination
of the Avogadro constant. At the
Italian metrology institute (INRIM), the lattice
parameter was stepwise determined with an Xray
interferometer along a scan path of 50 mm
and confirmed by comparison measurements
with a natural Si crystal at the American NIST.
In the respective working groups of PTB and at
the metrology institutes of Australia (NMI-A)
and Japan (NMIJ), the sphere volume was
measured optically – with excellent agreement
– by means of interferometers with different
beam geometries. The disturbing surface layer,
which mainly consists of silicon dioxide, was
analyzed with electron beams and X-rays in
accordance with different procedures of PTB,
NMIJ and the Swiss METAS.
At the BIPM, at NMIJ and at PTB, the masses of
the two silicon spheres were linked up in vacuum
with the national mass standards. At PTB,
the mass of the 28 Si sphere was determined in
vacuum with a relative standard uncertainty
of 6.5 · 10 –9 . Due to its density, which is clearly
smaller compared to Pt-Ir kilogram prototypes
and steel standards, mass determinations in vacuum
(< 0.1 Pa) are required to avoid air buoyancy
corrections. These determinations have
so far, however, been affected by a relatively
large uncertainty contribution of the sorption
correction. Here, the use of new sorption artefacts
made of a Pt-Ir alloy has brought a decisive
improvement so that the total measurement
