High-Power Broadband
Microwave Combiners
New Line of Straight Waveguide
Sections
Link Microtek has launched a new range
of broadband microwave combiners for
use in high-power amplifier systems
(HPAs) for applications such as automotive
EMC testing. These combiners
enable high power, broadband and low
loss combination of microwave signals
with performance that cannot be achieved
by other methods such as Wilkinson.
For example, the AMRC-8-7/16 is a
3...6 GHz, 8-way combiner offering
loss of only around 0.3 dB whilst able
to combine powers with output up to
1000 W easily. It is a radial design with
eight N-type input ports and one 7/16
output port. Since the design is reciprocal,
it can be used as a power splitter as
well. The unit is of small size (190 mm
long, 56 mm diameter) and low weight
(1.1 kg), being fabricated in aluminum.
This device is unpainted but a black
satin paint finish is also available.
Combining power from microwave
amplifier modules is an increasing
requirement as module pricing becomes
lower and power and broadband capability
increases. A solid state combined
HPA can reach the output of vacuum
tube devices but can also offer ‘graceful
degradation’ upon failure of a single
module rather than the catastrophic
‘all or nothing’ performance when a
tube fails.
Pasternack has released a new series of
straight waveguide sections in sizes ranging
from WR-10 to WR-137. Typical
applications include instrumentation, test
benches, high-efficiency RF/Microwave
transmission, SatCom, MilCom, radar and
telecom networks.
Pasternack’s new line of straight waveguide
sections consists of 62 models that operate in
the frequency range of 5.85 to 110 GHz and
in 13 waveguide bands from C to W band.
Wideband Synthesizer with
Integrated VCO
Richardson RFPD, Inc. announced the availability
and full design support capabilities
for a new wideband synthesizer from Analog
Devices, Inc. The ADF4356 allows
implementation of fractional-N or integer-
N phase-locked loop (PLL) frequency synthesizers
when used with an external loop
filter and an external reference frequency.
A series of frequency dividers at another
frequency output permits operation from
53.125 to 6800 MHz. The ADF4356 has an
integrated VCO with a fundamental output
frequency ranging from 3.4 to 6.8 GHz.
Additional key features of the ADF4356
include:
• Integer channel: -227 dBc/Hz; Fractional
channel: -225 dBc/Hz
• Integrated RMS jitter (1 kHz to 20 MHz):
97 fs for 6 GHz output
• High resolution, 52-bit modulus
• Phase frequency detector (PFD) operation
to 125 MHz
• Reference input frequency operation to
600 MHz
• Maintains frequency lock over -40 to
+85 °C
They also deliver SWR as low as 1.03:1.
These waveguide straights are available in
section lengths from 3 inches to 12 inches
and are made of either painted copper alloy
or gold-plated, oxygen-free hard copper
(OFHC) and feature UG, CPR and UBRstyle
flanges. These straight waveguides are
ideally suited for aerospace, defense, industrial,
test and instrumentation, telecom and
medical industries.
“We are pleased to offer this full range of
waveguide straights that support over 13
bands and are available in section lengths
from 3 to 12 inches. They perfectly complement
our rapidly expanding waveguide
component portfolio and deliver quality
construction and consistent performance,”
said Steven Pong, Product Manager at
Pasternack.
Pasternack’s straight waveguide sections are
in stock and ready for immediate shipment
with no minimum order quantity.
