The idea of the European Championship
is on the one hand to combine the different
disciplines in one place, on the other
hand to bring together riders and horses at
different levels of training, so that they learn
from each other and give some incentives for
future goals for the beginners. In particular,
the fact that also Novice (beginners) and Advanced
(advanced) tests are offered, as well
as three different championships held at
different levels, distorted outwardly the quality
standard, because the whole event runs
under the "Label" European Championship.
Unfortunately, many livestream observers
do not differentiate accordingly, resulting in
a negative image that this event - and especially
the performances of the participating
riders and horses - do not deserve! For one
thing is clear to anyone who has experienced
this event since its introduction in 2002:
The level of riding, the horses and their level
of training have improved significantly over
the years!
This year's stars
Every European Championship - and there
are now 14 in number - has its "star",
and this year was no exception. For the first
time, such a star came from Sweden, and it
was also his first participation in this event:
Elysion - the name is program, because the
Elysion was a place for those chosen by the
gods, where they would remain after death,
to live a blessed and happy life. Well, at least
in the community of riders of Arabian sport
horses, the chestnut stallion Elysion (Premier
/ Emancypacja) *2006 made a name for himself
with his appearance and thus achieved a
little "immortality". In Scandinavia no stranger,
Elysion met here for the first time horses
of Central Europe in a competition. Elysion,
a purely Polish-bred stallion from Kullatorp
Arabian Stud, has been ridden by Hanna
Persson since 2011 and has been trained for
several years by Eva Karin Oscarsson, a former
Swedish Olympic rider. The result of this
hard work they could now celebrate: The pair
won two titles, and was Austrian and European
Champion in Dressage.
Fabanco and Pauletta Zorn won the Silver Medal in Western Allround as well as the Gold medal
in Western Pleasure at this year's European Championship. – Fabanco und Pauletta Zorn

The defending champion from last year, Tove
Roy with Padrons Must from Denmark, did
not compete this year. So it was up to Susanne
Giese and MS Madrass to challenge the Swede,
or at least to defend the silver medal from
last year. At least they succeeded in the latter,
but to lose against a horse like Elysion, you can
get over. In the Lower Austrian championship
(LM), which is often taken as a practice stage
for the European Championships, MS Madrass
was at the top, at the European Championships
they delivered a solid test, which was
rewarded with the silver medal.
The bronze medal this year went to Haifi
El Sorrento with rider Susanne Hoyler, who
rode "for Edith", because the owner of "Sori",
Edith Lipp, had suffered a serious accident
in May and spent many weeks in a coma.
The first thing she thought about when she
awoke from the coma was that, despite everything,
Haifi El Sorrento had to compete in
Wiener Neustadt. Said, done, and so she was
watching the tournament on the livestream
from home and all rides of "Sori" were dedicated
to her. And it was well worth it because
Haifi El Sorrento and Susanne Hoyler came
home with no less than three gold medals
(Classic Pleasure, Mounted Native Costume
and AllRound) and a bronze medal in dressage,
making them the most successful pair
of them European Championship. There were
also two gold medals and a silver medal at
the Austrian Championships. The only downside
was that it was not (yet) a gold medal in
dressage - but you have to have goals for the
years to come!
The silver medal in the Classic Pleasure went
to Valerie (Dormane / OSO Valentino) * 2005
with her rider Isabel Bartlechner from Austria.
This mare is between genius and madness
- on the one hand she can perform very
well and then lose her nerve again. While
