on Sunday when it mattered, it worked
out in both the Pleasure and the Ladies Side
Saddle class, where the pair took gold. Silver
in Ladies Side Saddle went to El Trocadero
(Psyrasic / Kashida) under Karin Lenhard,
who participated for the second time in these
championships.
Two times bronze in Classic Pleasure and
Mounted Native Costume reached Mosri Al
Dahab (Dahab / Mosila) *2004 under Katharina
Dorn, a couple also known from Aachen.
They helped Germany to become the most successful
nation in this European Championship.
Most successful nation
However, to mark Germany as the winner of
this European championship is not possible
without the medals of the Western riders, and
that was another four! And they all went to
WAS Zahim's Zarina (Zid Ibn El Zahim / WAS
Tarisha Bint Taraszena) * 2009 with Sabrina
Pauli in the saddle. These two are just awesome,
they keep their nerves at the right
moment - where they have sometimes failed
with father Martin and sister Natalie - and
they are alrounders as it is in the book: gold
in the trail and the alround, silver in reining
and bronze in pleasure was then the result of
this weekend - that's hard to beat.
The most successful participating stud farm
was undoubtedly the Fronleitenhof farm of
the Dries family, which has been dedicated
to the Western-ridden purebred Arabian for
around 20 years. The international successes
started with the stallion Baikal, today it is his
descendants who win the medals. These include
Baikals Shangrila (Baikal / Desert Safanad)
* 2006, which was with daughter Leona
at the start and with a very fast ride they decided
the gold medal in the reining for themselves.
In addition, the two took the bronze
medal in the Western Allround. Six of the ten
qualifying Reining horses were either bred or
owned by the Fronleitenhof - or both! But it
gets even better, because Shangrila had two
full sisters, GFH Sajala *2010 under Susanne
Schuh and GFH Sandhya *2012 under Andre
Reitermayr, who took silver and bronze in the
trail.
The victory and thus the gold medal in the
Western Pleasure went to the Netherlands
for Fabanco (Dinar / Passionata) *2001 under
Paulette Zorn. This couple is a multiple
champion in Western Pleasure, Trail, Western
Horsemanship and Hunter in their home
country and has been successful at the European
Championships on several occasions. In
contrast, the "newcomer" MM Sandrine bred
and owned by Mario Matt: She was presented
by Andre Reitermayr and won the silver
medal - and this was her first start at a European
Championship! Eforos (Balon / Efuzja)
*2006 came from Poland with owner and
rider Jagoda Kowalska, who also competed
for the first time and won the Silver Medal
in Mounted Native Costume and the Bronze
medal in Classic Allround. The silver medal in
the Classic Allround remained in Austria and
went to Wizard (Gwizd / Wiza) *1999 under
Sandra Wagner. Unfortunately, the Classic
Allround has lost some of its meaning, as all
disciplines were from the field of dressage
and various pleasure competitions, as jumping
this year due to lack of nominations did
not materialize.
The Silver Medal in Mounted Native Costume and the Bronze Medal in Classic Allround went to
Eforos under Jagoda Kowalska from Poland. – Die Silbermedaille in Mounted Native Costume

Breeder and rider -
two worlds meet
It is important that there are studs that participate
in sports competition and that bridge
the gap between the breeders and the riders.
They also use their breeding horses in sports,
to check their inner qualities such as willingness
to cooperate, motivation, temperament
and character, in addition to the exterior
characteristics and movements. To this kind
of breeders belonged here in Wiener Neustadt
Kullatorp Arabian stud from Sweden,
because Elysion is used there also as a breeding
stallion. The MP Stables from Germany
are another one. They have former European
Champion Zid Ibn El Zahim in their breeding
barn, and WAS Zahim's Zarina, WAS Tajshan
Ibn Taraszena and Zahim's Navi - three of his
get - were shown here in the competition. Of
course, the Fronleitenhof belonging to the
Dries family belongs to this group, who have
the former multiple European champion
Baikal as breeding stallion and who are the
breeder of five participating horses, a total of
six of the horses are in their possession. In addition,
Mario Matt is mentioned in this series,
who was here for the first time with two selfbred
horses, which were also quite successful
in the show: MM Sandrine and MM Nevio,
the latter was a yearling bronze champion at
the European Championship of Show Horses.
And there were other horses that came
from well-known studs. The gap between riders
and breeders seems to be closing slowly.
It would be nice if more breeders realized
that there is a market here as well. However,
it is a long way to gain a foothold in the rider
camp, and success without prior investment
in horse training will not be possible.
A total of nine European Championship titles
were awarded, but there were also some
other prizes, such as the prize for the oldest
participating horse: This went to the 24-year-old
Penthor from the Netherlands, who
alreadyparticipated in the first European
Championship 2002 in Deurne! The prize for
the youngest rider went to Antonia Wimmer
from Austria, the longest route had Kullatorp
Arabians with Elysion, and the fastest at the
nomination was the family Lipp with Haifi El
Sorrento.
The bright faces at the award ceremony, which
was again celebrated masterfully with the
entry of the nations to the respective national
anthem, hopefully compensated the approximately
40-member organizing team around
Sissi Chat for all the work they put into this
event. And the next European Championship
will come - same place, different date!
