Dancers are often very self-critical as well.
How do you deal with self-criticism?
I must say I am very self-critical. I don’t like to watch a video
of myself performing that much, as I seldom like what I see
completely. It even happened me to find myself thinking
“I cannot believe I danced like that!”. However sometimes
watching yourself performing may help you to improve.
And, in recent years, sometimes it even happened me to
be pleasantly surprised watching some of my videos!
What do you look for in your dance partners?
Chemistry. Understanding each other as quickly as possible.
The law of action-reaction, somehow… Being really
in the moment together while on stage.
And what are you looking forward to
dancing in the next months?
I am dancing Robbins’ “Other Dances” in these weeks. A
fantastic piece I was very much looking forward to performing.
I can’t wait to dance Wayne McGregor’s “Infra” and
Balanchine’s “Tchaikovsky Pas de deux” next Spring. And
of course I am very much looking forward to having my
debut in Balanchine’s “Emeralds” in April, when the Royal
Danish Ballet will bring “Jewels” on stage.
Which other talent would you most like to
have, besides dancing?
Acting, I think. Being a theatre actor. You see, it is again
about performing live in front of an audience! That’s what
really drives me.
„Every show is different and I like
when details change. It remembers
us that we are human.“
Up to now, who or what is the greatest love
of your life?
Music. It has always been a huge inspiration for me. Even
when it comes to my everyday life, I could say.
Does ballet leave space for anything else in
your life?
I think ballet absorbs 100 per cent of my energies today.
I find myself being barely able to seriously think to
anything else, in these years. It is difficult to let yourself
go when you are in such a mood. Though being on stage
is an incredible reward, every single time.
So do you have any medium-term plans?
I hope to keep dancing as long as possible. And of course
to keep having dreams… to keep finding something
worthy to live for. Which means trying to make the best
out of the environment I am in, everyday, and being
grateful and happy with what I have. Oh, and I want
to buy a new house here in Copenhagen, I am looking
for it!
