Let’s go back.” We followed the other animals until we came to a small river. We crossed the river and then we walked north all night. Quincy caught a fish again. This time I had a piece, too. It was very good! The journey was harder every day now. We were in the mountains and went up and up. The nights were so cold and it often rained. One morning we came to a small town and found a nice little garden. We slept there. But after a few minutes a big car woke us. I could read the words on it. “Dog-Catcher 12 ”. Then we heard a man’s voice. “I’ve just found a dog and a cat, Willy. Come on. Let’s catch them.” “Run,” said Quincy and I followed the cat into the forest. Quincy was too clever for the dogcatchers. We ran for a very long time. Then we stopped and slept again. We followed the road through 13 the mountains. One night we walked through a tunnel. It was dark and cold. We could see the cars in the tunnel but they couldn’t see us. It was very dangerous 14 . Suddenly Quincy screamed 15 : “Oh my foot! The car went over my foot.” Now Quincy walked on three legs. I was very worried 16 because it was still 150 miles to Great Falls. After the tunnel the road went down through the mountains for three days. Quincy was slow. Her bad foot hurt a lot and she needed a vet 17 soon.
