Competence in excellence
The IMM Group is a globally active and innovative mediumsized
electronics service provider with an outstanding marketing
strategy. The service portfolio of the IMM Group
covers the entire value creation chain for electronic equipment
construction: from hardware and software to firmware
development, sample construction, series production
and application, as well as logistics and global marketing
via international sales partners.
Series production takes place via an automated production
line, incorporating everything from solder paste
printing to fully automatic SMD assembly and the reflow
soldering process. In order to assure quality the line in -
cludes, among other measures, modern solder joint inspection
systems and several optical inspection systems such as
the AOI, Flyingprobe and Boundary Scan systems. When
delivering its electronic products and services, IMM fo cuses
on the business areas of technology/automation, health/
me dical technology and entertainment/media technology,
and is certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 and
DIN EN ISO 14001.
Since it was established as a sole proprietorship in 1991,
IMM has been continually pursuing research and development
and has been able to drive forward new innovations
through several cooperative projects. Today, the IMM Group
is an association of six companies at eight locations in and
around Mittweida, with more than 200 permanent em -
ployees. Since 2003, the group has been organized in a holding
structure and has its own research management team,
which pools and coordinates the R&D activities of all of the
associated IMM companies from a central location. These
R&D activities range from customer-related development
contracts as a service provider to individual internal pro-
jects and large group projects. In recent years, the Research
Management Team, as a joint partner in various R&D projects,
has been able to gather extensive experience with
various project coordinators. The focus is placed on cooperative
research projects with representatives from the fields
of economics, science and research. The R&D activities prioritize
technology, health and entertainment as the main
areas of application. Through participation in various projects,
it has been possible to build up considerable competence
in the development of interfaces for audio and video
signals, which feature particularly low latencies along the
entire signal transmission chain. In addition to expertise in
printed circuit board design and layout, the ability to carry
out the hardware programming of FPGAs and develop software
for microcontrollers forms an essential part of IMM’s
development expertise. Through interdisciplinary collaboration
with various project partners it was possible to devise
an Ethernet-based solution for the transmission of ‘audio
over IP’.
Success through networked research
IMM has an extensive network of competent partners from
the fields of economics, science and research. Close collaborations
exist, for example with the Mittweida University
of Applied Sciences. IMM intentionally creates opportunities
for the exchange and transfer of ex pertise between
regional and national experts, in order to initiate joint
re search activities. As a result of more than 20 years of
ex perience in R&D activities, both the strategic project
management and the management of funding have be -
come increasingly professional and represent an additional
area of competence that the IMM Group has at its dis posal
for future cooperative projects. n
