Introductory Note
Das Jahr 2005 war von wechselnden marktwirtschaftlichen Rahmenbedingungen gekennzeichnet, die sich
vor allem durch schwankende Weltmarktpreise für Zellstoff und Papier sowie durch Kursschwankungen bezüglich
Euro und US-Dollar bemerkbar machten. Dieser Umstand und die damit verbundenen verschärften
Wettbewerbsbedingungen stellten unser Unternehmen vor große Herausforderungen. Vor diesem Hintergrund
war es umso wichtiger, dass 2005 die Weichen für die langfristige Absicherung der Zellstoff- und
Papierproduktion in Pöls gestellt wurden: Das für die strategische Ausrichtung des Standortes notwendige
UVP*-Verfahren mit behördlichen Detailgenehmigungsverfahren konnte
positiv abgeschlossen und somit das größte Investitionsprogramm seit
Bestehen der Fabrik gestartet werden. Das Ausbaukonzept „Pöls 500+“
berücksichtigt neben wirtschaftlichen Kriterien auch einschneidende umweltrelevante
Maßnahmen, die unser Werk auf den neuesten Stand der
Technik bringen und als zukunftsorientierten Produktionsstandort auszeichnen
werden. Die Um- und Neubauarbeiten zur Modernisierung und
Erweiterung der Kapazität sind nicht nur für unseren Standort wichtig,
sondern haben auch eine volkswirtschaftliche Bedeutung für die gesamte
Region. Aufgrund des guten operativen Ergebnisses, das trotz eines dreiwöchigen
Revisionsstillstandes erwirtschaftet wurde, konnten alle getätigten
Investitionen aus unternehmenseigenen Geldmitteln finanziert werden.
Positiv zu vermerken sind ferner unsere neuerlichen Rekorde in der
Produktion von Zellstoff und Papier sowie der Ausbau unseres Kernmarktes
Österreich mit den angrenzenden Nachbarländern.
2005 was characterized by volatile economic conditions that were primarily associated
with the fluctuating pulp and paper prices in the global marketplace, as well as
fluctuations in the exchange rate between the US Dollar and the Euro. These circumstances
and the associated heightened competition represented major challenges for
our company. Against this backdrop, it was even more important to pave the way for
the long-term sustainability of pulp and paper production in Pöls. The environmental

impact assessment test required for the strategic orientation of the location, together
with the associated regulatory approval procedures, was successfully completed, so
that the most important investment program since the establishment of the plant can start. This project “Pöls 500+” not only
takes economic criteria into consideration, but also significant environmental measures that will bring our plant to a state-of-theart
level and will establish it as a future-oriented production site. The activities that will modernize our plant and expand its capacity
are of major importance not only for our location, but will also have economic significance for the entire region. Because
of the excellent operating result that was generated despite a three-week work stoppage for repairs, it was possible to finance
all of the investments made with the company’s own funding. In addition, we were once again able to set new production
records, and another positive development was the expansion of our core market in Austria and the neighboring countries.
