und Logistik GmbH handles research
projects that vary from each other
in terms of application, the project
scope, project complexity and the
composition of the project consortium.
Accordingly, for the scientific
practice at BIBA, various forms of
projects can be derived, which are
listed in the table above.
In particular, research projects can
be classified by the kind of funding
they receive. While industry funded
projects are characterized by highly
practice-oriented project activities,
public funded projects mostly focus

on fundamental research questions.
With regard to practice-orientation,
collaborative national and international
projects show a higher involvement
of industrial or scientific partners.
Usually, periods for fundamental
research projects are considerably
longer than for industrial projects.
In strategic partnerships and contract
research projects, operational
problems of specific industry partners
are solved at short notice. Results of
fundamental research projects are
used iteratively in subsequent projects,
in order to realize future applicable
solutions for industry.
