EMOSES
Development of a method for object
recognition of universal cargo units
for the automatic discharge of standard
charge carriers from 3D laser
scan data
The aim of this research project is to
develop a method to detect universal
cargo units. This method should define the
location and position of the cargo unit,
so that automatic unloading of general
cargo units by a manipulator is possible.
The core of the research project is the design
and implementation of this method,
which is later tested with simulated data.
To find out the possibilities and limits of the
applicability of the method, a test setup is
finally installed.
ESKALE
Trans-European Sustainable Knowledge-Based
Manufacturing for Small
and Medium Sized Enterprises in
traditional industries
The two-year transnational collaborative
project ESKALE has dealt with the question,
how knowledge-based internal processes
in handicraft SMEs can be supported
to enable them to manufacture on an
industrial level and to participate in cooperations.
For this purpose, industrial and
scientific partners collaborated to develop
a software solution, which established an
information management portal for those
SMEs. The business models of four typical
end-users were the background for the
successful configuration, implementation
and evaluation of the portal.
EURIDICE
European Interdisciplinary Research
on Intelligent Cargo for Efficient, Safe
and Environment-friendly Logistics
EURIDICE aims to create necessary
concepts, technological solutions and
business models in order to establish the
most advanced information services for
freight transportation in Europe. It is based
on the intelligent cargo concept, i.e. the
cargo is self- and context- aware as well
as connected through a global telecommunication
network to support a wide
range of information services for logistics
operators, industrial users and public
authorities.
The full realization has a significant impact
in terms of diffusion and effectiveness of
ICT support to freight transportation. To
visualize the advantages, a demonstrator
has been build. It will strengthen the
competitiveness and the environmentfriendliness
of logistics in Europe.
HDAT
Development of a Human Data Acquisition
Transporter (HDAT) based on
an electric vehicle and its evaluation
by way of a transfer project
The HDAT for mobile data acquisition
was developed in this project, for
which an electric vehicle (Segway) was
equipped with an UHF-RFID system. The
advantage of this approach is the high
velocity of the electric vehicle compared
to other mobile data acquisition
systems. Hence, the duration of the data
acquisition process can be reduced. The
HDAT was tested in collaboration with the
Günter Badenhop Fleischwerke KG. In a
second step, the benefit of the HDAT for
a logistics scenario was evaluated, thus
generating a simulation model, which
represents the integration of the HDAT into
an automobile terminal.
HIT ProInnWis
Process-oriented Intelligent Knowledge
Management System
The vision of HIT ProInnWis has been
to provide an intelligent context based
knowledge management system to
the group of engineers, designers and
areo-physicians working in the area of
aircraft design. Users, having to fulfill a
specific task (e.g. a rib creation for A350),
are now able to get context specific
support in terms of documents, tools,
contacts and other knowledge artifacts.
This was achieved by referencing new
programs to a generic design process. All
existing knowledge artifacts are linked to
“activities”, which are the corresponding
objects to the concrete tasks, but on a
generic level. Thus the engineering knowledge
can be automatically at hand, if a
user wants to fulfill a specific task in a new
development program.
IDS
Intelligent Desktop Management
System
IDS is a research project funded by the
German aircraft industry. The system will
assist developers with their daily work by
determining the context gathered from
desktop applications (e.g. MS Office) to
proactively provide semantically similar
knowledge artifacts.
The semantic enrichment is made by
combining several techniques like the filtering
of paragraphs to remove irrelevant
text paragraphs, or the usage of lexical
scanners, to extract key words from
artifacts. Clustering algorithms enable recognition
of semantic linkages between
extracted key words. Thus knowledge
artifacts can be grouped and prioritized.
INSTANDHALTUNG
Since container handling will increase
in the future, the degree of capacity
for straddle carriers will increase as well.
This leads to shorter time frames for
maintenance operations of the straddle
carriers. Thus the service life between
maintenance operations has to increase.
The project aims to develop a system,
with which specific and crucial systems
and engines of the straddle carrier can
be monitored (equipment and condition
monitoring). Main focus lies on the shift
from preventive maintenance to an
actual condition based maintenance.
INWEST
Smart Swap Body Management
The main focus for implementing
“smart swap body management” is for
the industry of KEP and contract logistics.
The developed operations shall be
exercised in two application scenarios.
With the use of pilot and field tests, the
effects of traffic (carrier transport) should
be quantified. For the long term, INWEST
shall lead to the prevention of traffic
volume. A special focus is based on the
execution of tests to get more information
about the real data for the evaluation
of developed system parts.
