Modern infrastructure - together with
education and research & development – is
a decisive factor for the success of a business
location as well as the prosperity of the population.
True to the motto of iconvienna „make contacts to
contracts“, well-developed infrastructures are indeed
important „contacts“ between cities, regions and
neighbouring countries.
Good contacts are not only a „geographical“ necessity
but are also essential for the various modes of transport.
To meet our mobility needs in the long term, we need
to combine the various modes of transport in order to
create an efficient, fully intermodal transport system.
Optimum management of existing infrastructure will
continue to grow in importance and will in the long
term reduce the need for new construction. This
transition inevitably requires a major rethink by all
parties - from infrastructure providers through to
individual travellers.
Austrian motorway network operator ASFINAG, for
example, shows clear evidence of this rethinking of
the transport situation. ASFINAG already prioritized
networking with other modes of transport in its vision
statement in 2009 and has made it a firm feature of its
future concept „ASFINAG Motorway Picture 2025“.
